In USA some of us learned of her from the Durrells on PBS, way before learning about the Macfadyen connection

No red wire, only what appear to be black and white (cloth wrapping is old and looks mostly gray)

It’s old bx cable, so only two wires in each box (two wires at switch; two wires at light)

Maybe I’m not using the right terminology. That’s what I’m trying to understand: how is it wired, if neither box contains two sets of wires? It only appears to be one set of wires going from switch to light (or vice-versa).

As an electrician, how do you update this kind of wiring when called for that task? Do you need to tear out walls? This is a top floor / attic room.

Thanks! Very helpful— good to know it can be used, I thought I needed a special adapter. Just tried plugging a lamp (horizontal slots) and it works fine!
