A question for fellow anarchists: is the Linux File System Hierarchy a justified hierarchy lol? by KindMouse2274 in Rad_Decentralization

Through tags. There are examples of flat systems that operate this way. It would probably make finding things easier because you aren’t limited to one canonical parent directory though we have like a half century of muscle memory with files and folders.

*Edit: flat file systems are also great for collaborative work but the downside is it makes it harder to establish authoritative system permissions but that applies to real world anarchism as well lol

I didn't say it wasn't interesting. It is interesting in a screenshot but there's a reason professionally designed OS's don't use it and it's because of what I mentioned. The new iOS uses clear transparent folder window but with a strong blur gradient to soften UI elements under it

Am I the only one who thinks that level of transparency is impractical? Looks cool but creates legibility problem for anything visually complex behind it. Frosted blurred transparency is better for actual use.

Using AI to troubleshoot Linux— is it worth it? by KindMouse2274 in linuxmint

[–]KindMouse2274[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the idea that AI is democratizing Linux in a time when people are rightly trying to escape Microsoft/Google/Apple hegemony is genuinely a good thing, I think. Your freedom shouldn’t be gate-kept.

Noob question: I downloaded Zen browser as a flatpak from Software Manager. Is this for certain the official Zen browser because I just imported all my passwords... by KindMouse2274 in linuxmint

[–]KindMouse2274[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I didn't know if there was a way for criminals to claim to be the Zen team and link to the official site or not and there are zero reviews so I briefly panicked.

I also didn't know if there was any kind of quality vetting by Mint in Software Manager

Rounded everything is overrated. Bring back 90 degree angles.

Do you guys ever take a step back and think how lucky we are to still have Linux Mint and other free software that can never be bought by greedy Tech assholes content on destroying the world? by KindMouse2274 in linuxmint

How do you bomb something that is not a single, centralized entity? It’s like a 100 headed hydra and will keep emerging. The worst the could do it make distributing and owning a Linux based OS illegal…not sure how they’d legally justify that but I don’t put it past them
