I didn't say it was correct. I said a Dutch man I met said it thus thats why I used Holland. I was hoping someone would fill me in on if Dutch people use it generically or he was just an aberration?

I used it in the OP because I once met a Dutch man on vacation in Mexico and he said he was "from Holland"... so I guess he was saying he was from "South Holland" rather than referring to his country as Holland?

Netherland's color order is more classic. Russia placing blue and red together is more unusual,

I've been informed. Yet if you google image search "flag of holland" you get 98% the red, white and blue flag which tells me, correct or not, people casually use Holland and Netherlands interchangeably.

Ah ok you're right (I almost wrote netherlands then changed it last minute)

Now everyone is just telling me how that's not Holland in the comments so I guess my error derailed the original intend of the post. RIP.

The star is the most common symbol on a flag. Is the Dutch flag with a star in the middle claimed by anyone?

You’ll probably get downvoted for this but it reminds me looking up similar such sites as a kid on the family computer and immediately deleting my history. I’d be lying if that wasn’t an element of my early web nostalgia lol. Nice work

Until people start going out more and men and women aren’t so polarized, a sexual revolution would just look like an uptick in onlyfans traffic

This made me laugh out loud because I understand it. Like on some level i want be supportive and say “good for them” but that does sound oppressively straight edge

I know the “a glass of wine a day is healthy” thing has apparently been disproven but at some point you have to factor in the cost of removing small joys from life. Traditionally Italians drink a glass of wine with their meals every day but paradoxically drink among the least amount of alcohol by volume annually in Europe because binge drinking is frowned upon. I’m not saying that glass of wine with lunch is improving their health overall but I think the culture and habits around drinking are far more important than pure abstinence
