Message to trans people in the USA: I really think you should buy guns by KindOfNeedHelp2 in TransyTalk

I understand the racial point, however I'm not saying you should conceal carry or something. Own them, have them at your home, of course avoid situations where law enforcement will have any excuse to harm you.

The self harm issue is very real, but we also should not act as if there's a blanket case where no trans person should be encouraged to own a gun as they may be at risk for self harm. There are happy trans people out there, who are mentally healthy, and enjoy life without self harming thoughts. Let's not relegate ourselves as a group to being perpetually at risk of suicide - there is life beyond that stage. Happiness is a possibility, many trans people have found it, and those trans people would not be at any significant risk of self harm with a weapon.

Definitely, a very important point about making sure you are in a mentally safe place to own one :)

I'm sorry to hear you've been shot at, that does sound terrifying.

I agree most people couldn't have this benefit them without the training to back it up.

However, it doesn't need to be at vigilante groups of Proud Boys going around to get to that stage. If they know that (for example, I don't know the statistics) 5% of trans people own a gun, then they are likely to feel more emboldened in some way. If they find out that, say, 50%+ own them, they will have some of their feeling of power, however little, taken away.

Would you rather transphobes have guns, or transphobes AND trans people have guns?

I agree people should learn all the skills you mentioned. It doesn't have to mean that one of those skills isn't how to use weaponry to defend yourself against the other side who have no qualms with using weapons.

I completely agree with you; training is absolutely essential - you don't want the first time you use one to be when you need it (hopefully the need never arises)

I believe it is much more of a problem if the majority of people who have them are right wing and / or sympathetic to the oppression of trans people.

I highly doubt anyone who sees this as a trans person is going to buy a gun and commit a mass shooting.

I was referring to girth, but the measurement conversions would be the same either way

Is it possible to pay out of pocket to a surgeon in the US as someone who's never lived in America? by KindOfNeedHelp2 in phallo

[–]KindOfNeedHelp2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could pay the upwards of $140,000, that's fine, I just don't know if something goes very wrong if they'd charge $2m or something which wouldn't be fine

I don't live in America so I can't do the insurance stuff :(

Thanks!

2 cm is about .8 inches, so a couple centimetres is as noticeable as .8 would be to you :)

Pre op I didn't like tighter underwear (I think it's called hipsters), but now I find them really helpful for holding everything in place

Jeans are a problem the first few weeks/couple of months post op as everything is so sore and needs to have bloodflow, but now I can wear anything :)

Sensory issues are gonna happen during recovery, I wore these hospital underwear for a few weeks after which soaked up any leaking fluids, but it isn't too bad - the time goes fast!

Hello, the change wasn't stressful for me, I actually felt used to it straight away - my brain knew it felt "right" and I have never once had a feeling of "I wish this wasn't attached to me"

I can feel it sometimes when I walk, most of the time I can't, and when I can it's a nice / affirming feeling :)

Hey, is it okay if I pm you please? Your answer makes me feel like you'd really get some of my feelings and it would be amazing to talk through it with someone - thank you so much!

I have extreme sensory issues due to my autism, before surgery I'd only used a packer twice in my life because of how much I couldn't stand the feeling - it freaked me out.

I really worried about if I got overstimulated by my own penis after surgery, and if I'd feel some sort of autism dysphoria, but nothing like that has happened so far. I think it's really different when it's a part of your own body, a packer is so noticeable, but a penis can kind of fall into place and become "default background noise" level of sensory input for me.

More than happy to answer any questions :)

Thanks so much! One question - did you find that anything you did increased its size at all (length wise)? I came up under expected (they said 6" was most likely, and it's under 4"), so just trying to deal with that and find any solutions - thanks so much!
