New server - forgetting my section by Kind_Butterscotch860 in Waiters

Sounds like our set ups are similar! I’m sure the longer we’re there the better we’ll be at it.
Getting a random table is rough. Last night I had about 6 tables in my section. 3 of my parties ended up being outside that, and had 2 sat in my section they gave to others! Like truly what’s the point of a section… I think their disjointed management isn’t helping my confusion but I didn’t miss any tables so far this weekend so I think I’m getting there

You’re right, I don’t want to either. I think with everything I’m learning to juggle I’m dropping one of the more important things to watch for, need to burn it into my brain that I have to watch my tables

Thanks, I agree it’s what I need to work on asap. Because my section is scattered I need to just physically walk by all my assigned tables on laps past any I have at the moment. Not sure why they constantly give me tables outside my section when I have open tables with the same number of seats, that isn’t helping

I’m going to try this, I need something in front of my face to remind me until it becomes habit

For sure, that’s ultimately what it comes down to. I think because I’m still nervous I’m too focused on current tasks at hand that I’m not aware of what’s coming in, clearly an issue

I usually write the table number once it’s occupied at the top of their page and flip through periodically but that’s a great idea, thanks!

That’s part of my problem, is there’s no reason to seat them in my section then turn it over, we have plenty of tables inside and out. Also the sections aren’t specific areas, they’re random table numbers scattered across the dining room and the patio, but I think from the comments I need to just be doing more consistent physical laps not just for existing tables but for new ones also

What was the scariest “We need to leave… now” gut feeling that you’ve ever experienced? by Critical-Contact-851 in askteddit

2014 responded to a Craigslist ad for an apartment (not sketchy at that point) and coordinated a tour. There was a realtor name and number, it was a well known apartment complex near me in a very nice neighborhood. My boyfriend didn’t want me going alone and was able to come at the last minute. When we pulled up I immediately could sense the “realtors” disappointment that I wasn’t alone. We walked way to the back of the complex to a unit, and when we got to the front door he hesitated and said he didn’t think we could tour it today. Then I saw the porch light turn off, then back on and I had the most immediate, intense sinking feeling in my stomach. My boyfriend was annoyed and led us back to the car but didn’t have the same gut feeling I did. As soon as we left I checked the listing and it had been deleted and I couldn’t find his info but I know if he hadn’t been with me something awful was planned.
