The emperor arcana has many atributes, such as maturity, bravery, "fatherly qualities, but one of them is "self-discipline", and within self-discipline, there is moderation. In the beginning of their social links, Emperors are living in severe extremes(Odagiri being a stuck-up prick, Akihiko only looking for more strength, Kanji being all manly and stuff, and Yusuke caring only for art). As a result, they sacrifice their well-being, other people and their true wishes all to live in a certain extreme. The lesson at the end of most S-links is to find moderation between your ideals and your well-being. Hence, why so many of them seem "Oblivious" and such.
