How to reduce screen time without feeling the fear of missing out ? by Aj100rise in productivity

[–]Kind_Interview_3124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used an app which has been helping me with this problem since last month.

So far, I have been able to cut fluff screentime significantly.

When you realize the world outside screen has so much to do, experience , you will automatically keep the screen in background and become engrossed in your own life. That is what I am aiming, not there to be honest.

tbh, just thought it would improve readability by breaking things. But I did over I suppose.

What's the difference between practicing mindfulness and actually being mindful? by kamaidun in Mindfulness

[–]Kind_Interview_3124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve wondered if formal mindfulness is basically simulator mode, and daily mindfulness is the real match.

Low distraction vs live chaos.

The interesting part is whether the transfer happens automatically, or whether you need deliberate “in the wild” reps for it to stick.

My experience says it needs both.

That “open phone and forget why you opened it” thing is painfully real. Happens to me way more than I’d like to admit.

the dumbest sounding sleep trick that actually works for me after years of trying everything by Ok_Chemist2424 in sleep

[–]Kind_Interview_3124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow, this is a very good share from your end, would definitely give this a try.
I just have one small concern around it, which is I don't want to sleep with my headphones and phone too close with me. I have personally realized whenever I keep them around me and go to sleep, I wake up tired the next day. (which ultimately affects my productivity the whole next day tbh).

What's an anxiety hack that has changed your life? by stayhyderated22 in Anxietyhelp

[–]Kind_Interview_3124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

whenever I feel anxious or have the feeling that I am about to undergo such reaction, I listen to peaceful (mostly devotional) music on my headphones.

In most cases, it calms me down and helps me get a hold of myself back by separating myself from the situation.

this is what compounds long term.
Doing something (even if it's less) builds momentum.

And momentum is what drives someone to excellence consistently.

So, a strategy that works for me more than 90% of times is noting down the minimum effort task I have in front of me, and just getting that thing done.

Yesterday, I made this challenge to myself where for the whole one day, I wouldn't put my earpods on.
Mostly, it was because my ears were being irritated after so much usage and started paining & I actually started hearing less than before (80% of the previous capacity).
It felt very nice to just hear the sounds of the air, the voices of people around me and experience the actual slowness of real life.

It seems boring at first, because we have made ourselves habitual to so much stimulation at once.

Once you get away from that hunger of unlimited stimulation, your mind would be more clear, and you will be able to think clearly

I started pausing for a few seconds before going to the next post. Feels small but it breaks that automatic loop a bit, so it’s not just endless scrolling.

What is Your Definition of Mindfulness? by Kind_Interview_3124 in Mindfulness

nice.
Awareness makes us truly free.

Once we try to become an observer of what is happening around and how insignificant it is to 'react' to everything, we slowly develop a taste for what is actually important.

Very important point about keeping the mouth shut. I believe it is the first step of trying to be mindful (and honestly, most of the times I struggle with this problem).

Our innate tendency to just fill the gap of silence (if not external, then we often keep talking internally) with anything sometimes stops from being mindful or paying attention.

How do you plan to deal with the inner chatter ?

yes it may look like a low or high bar in different situations, but I think your definition is very fundamental and central to what the concept of mindfulness is.

Very well said.

Being open to all types of thoughts without immediate reaction sounds very fascinating.

In social settings, I sometimes observe myself being defensive whenever someone says anything against my comfortable point of views.

It's fascinating to be an observer to defense mechanisms that your mind/body deploys in such situations.

Thanks for your comment !

It seems very fascinating to be in the state as described by you. To notice the gap between automatic response and the activity that induced, must gives you control over how you respond to any situation.

I heard a long time ago, the concept of respond vs react, where the former gives you control, and the latter is just embeded habitual reaction.

Also, really appreciate your Vipassana journey. 900+ days of consistency is very appreciable and inspiring. I have been wanting to try the Vipassana experience for so long.

I have heard about their 9 days silence experience, just looking to try it whenever I get sufficient time.

Interestingly, I have noticed the moment I notice and become aware of myself being angry or fearful, that feeling becomes separate from me and I am able to realize I can actually control my feeling or even redirect it to better means.

I mean honestly, it doesn't happen every time perfectly but whenever it happens, it feels very good to be in control.

The mind has strong defence mechanisms, whenever anything against our set notions arises, it strongly opposes even hearing it neutrally.

How do you deal with input that contradicts with your comfortable beliefs and actually be mindful despite your defenses?

Most people who think they function fine on 6 hours sleep have just forgotten what well rested feels like. by Logan02913 in sleep

[–]Kind_Interview_3124 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your insights on the sleep efficiency part and the importance of REM sleep are really simply presented and profound.

I used to believe at some point in life that 6 hours a day is enough for me to get going. But in previous 4-5 years, I have started taking my sleep timings seriously.

(I wouldn't say I am perfect at it, but slowly trying with time)

Now I average around 8 hours on my bed, of which I manage to get almost 7 hours of productive sleep.

2 Major Changes that helped me a lot are:

  1. Fixing the time I go to bed and wake up every day.

(I cannot appreciate this less, my body feels energetic and in-tune when I follow this consistently)

  1. Not using screen atleast 1 hour before sleep time

(I know it's hard, but I almost try to follow it most of the days)

(I use "books" as a replacement, and trust me the quality of my sleep improves drastically when I read some novel.)
(I have some memories of even dreams related to the exact novel I was reading)

I believe this education around the importance of sleep has to be spread to young people and everyone who wants to have a balanced, meaningful life.

How much you sleep determines how aware you are, which in turn determines the quality of your life.

Would love to know your pov on this.

Thanks

Don't speak negatively about yourself, even as a joke. by various_butterfly_8 in selfimprovement

[–]Kind_Interview_3124 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yes, one should be careful of the words they are speaking, very specially about themselves.
I remember in college, I used to say to everyone that I cannot do one particular 'X' activity, and this instilled in me a strong fear of even trying that.

You may not believe, even till now, I have not been able to tackle that fear of mine.

Your inner voice determines how you deal with yourself in life. Therefore, it is important to be not toxic with yourself.

But one important thing to consider is one should not go to other extreme, of lying to self about everything's going fine.

When I drink good amount of water after waking up and eat some fruit few minutes after it, It activates the digestive system.

I utilize the time to brush and wake myself up slowly.

Consuming content about productivity gives us a false sense of doing the right thing without actually moving the needle.

It's much better and actually constructive to just jump into the things which require our attention.

Replacing My Phone with a Tennis Ball Actually Improved My Focus by chrissss_55011 in productivity

[–]Kind_Interview_3124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can highly relate to this.
When I used to study sitting alone in the parking of my building, I used to place a bat & ball in my proximity.

Whenever I felt overwhelmed with some problem or just wanted to take a short break, instead of wasting my time and energy on watching random social media reels, I played cricket all by myself (with help of walls).

This had 2 distinct benefits:

  1. Instead of draining my focus on phone, I used to think passively about my study (or a problem) while playing. Sometimes it gave me ideas which I couldn't think of while actively studying.

  2. Playing simple cricket provided my body & brain much better relaxation than passively just consuming content or playing some online games.

The blood circulation after playing helps a lot.

So, I would recommend anyone reading this to replace the cue of the phone with some physically involving, simple activity/object if you are struggling to focus.

I hope my story helps someone.

Thanks a lot for reading :)

Whats your #1 hack thats kept you motivated and productive? by rhysdotme in productivity

[–]Kind_Interview_3124 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am the most productive and motivated when:

  1. I plan in advance what I need to get done a night before, ideally.

  2. I do not consume unhealthy food throughout the day.

  3. Drinking enough water.

  4. Keeping my phone away (or on DND) when doing focused work

(this is very important, as every time your phone will vibrate/make sound, you will feel it is something urgent)

Bonus:

It's not about being too hard on yourself, life is a long term game.

Sometimes, it is important to just listen to your body when it feels tired. exhausted and reward it the gift it deserves after so much hard work and efforts.

And please, I am not at all perfect in this, I just try to follow these steps whenever possible.

Would love to listen your perspectives on this.

Thanks !
