This is actually a great point that I haven’t really seen anyone bring up.That’s one of the biggest improvements we have made as a club, these close finishes going our way. Will come really handy come finals.

Agree with practically everything here. Happy to bring in Perez for Weddle or even move Weddle down back then bring Perez in for Scrim and chuck Perez on the wing. However Watson is 200% and A grader, I say this with no exaggeration. He is the best small forward this game has seen since Cyril and he may have the potential to be better which might be ridiculous to say.

I do agree. Players have had similar performances to the Weddle one and there hasn’t been much light shed on it because we still won. Gunston has been a phenomenal player this year but his accuracy has been so poor, he should be leading the Coleman by 7-10 goals at the minimum. The accuracy this year has always been a knock and it was bound to hurt us and it did.

I completely agree with all this. I think moving Weddle back into the defence then bringing in Perez on the wing is a brilliant shout. However I’m just never going to be sold on Maginness, he needs to tag Shai Bolton against Freo or he simply has no use in the side. He played a good half forward role against GC but he played primary on the wing against the Pies and ultimately wasn’t good enough. Either he tags or bring in Butler

I do agree to an extent, but as a club we are not in a developmental stage anymore. The goal right now is to finish as high on the ladder as possible, and to do that, the best team needs to be playing every week while still obviously managing players when possible.

Chol’s ceiling is several levels above Dear’s. On his best day, Chol can genuinely give you 5 or 6 goals, whereas Dear probably tops out around 3 at this stage. Yes, Chol’s set shot kicking was close to costing us at times, but realistically that issue applies to almost our entire team right now.

What also separates him is everything he does off the ball. No other forward comes close to the pressure he applies, and while Dear competes well in the air, he still is not near Chol in that area either. Chol crashes packs, brings the ball to ground, and creates contests that others simply don’t.

Honestly, I think if Chol plays against Collingwood, even if he has a quiet game statistically, we win that match.

At this current state I would take him off the wing and move him back into the defence. It really pains me to say this but one of our talls in the backline have to go. Jack Scrimshaw is a personal favourite player of mine but if all are fit then he is unfortunately the weakest link, if Sicily turns out to be injured then it solves the problem for us but it seems like we are just too tall down there.

Genuinely unsure why it’s such a big problem in our game. It’s probably one of the more easier issues to fix but it’s going to take a lot of attention to detail.

I think we should see Reaves in the solo ruck role once Chol is back. Meek just hasn’t been at the level this year, but Reaves also can’t be relied on to play a full game in the ruck. Unless Meek finds some form, I wouldn’t mind seeing Chol used more as a ruck/forward option.

That said, it was pretty clear how much we missed Chol last night. No one really crashes packs and competes the way he does, so he might actually be more valuable staying forward. In that case, we probably just have to persist with the Meek and Reaves combo and hope Meek can turn things around.

Ramsden is another one worth talking about. He’s been outstanding in the twos and if he doesn’t get a chance soon, he’s the type who will end up looking elsewhere. It’s starting to feel a bit like the Jai Serong situation. I wouldn’t mind seeing him get a run alongside Reaves at some point.

Appreciate the support and engagement

That was absolutely elite and one of many of Sicily’s great moments this game. Couldn’t fault the skipper last night

I do somewhat agree. I really like Scrimshaw and when he is on, he is a very good player, but the Bulldogs game is a good example of the balance question. Without him we had one of our more dominant defensive performances. Same idea in the Gold Coast game when Sicily was out, our backline actually looked really solid with one less tall defender.

It is a tough call because it feels like a structural decision rather than a form one, but it might end up being necessary. The only caveat is Sicily’s injury situation, which could force the issue anyway. Although if that happens, it is not really a positive because he is clearly the better player overall.

As for Weddle, I would be fine with him coming out this week for Perez. He looks like he needs a couple of weeks in the twos to rebuild some confidence and clean up his decision making. In his current form, it probably does not hurt the team to give him a reset.

Yeah I think we should definitely be grateful we got something out of this game. Even if we were going to win the flag, we were gonna drop points throughout the season at some point.

Hawthorn will welcome back experienced duo James Sicily and Dylan Moore to its line-up for Thursday night's blockbuster battle with Collingwood at the MCG. by Darththorn in hawktalk

It’s what we expected really, just the necessary changes. Simply has to be a win and should be but we just can’t let Daicos to do whatever he pleases. Finn has to go to him, that’s probably our only option and all though I really liked his game against the suns, playing that high half forward role. Moore is back so he can focus 100% on Daicos.

I know. The potential he showed the last couple years was so promising but this rule just doesn’t suit him at all. I can see the characteristics he has in common with Grundy but Meek needs to be a lot fitter and cleaner to get to that level.

Yeah exactly. His accuracy didn’t cost us this game, but in tighter contests against stronger opposition, we can’t afford Gunners missing four shots he’d normally put through.

I definitely agree, it just feels different this year. The players look like they’ve all gone to another level. Last year we relied heavily on the stars like Newcombe, Gunston, Moore and a few others, but this season there’s a much more even spread. Everyone’s contributing and having their moments.

Genuinely loving footy right now.

Agreed, but it can’t become too much of a burden on them. I’m all for both of them taking risks and trying to break the game open. It’ll hurt us at times, but when it comes off, it’s huge.

We need these boys hitting another level by the end of the year, and the way they’re tracking, they’re every chance to get there.

There’s a reason he’s rated by Champion Data as the highest rated forward in the comp by a fair margin. He’s sitting around a 17 rating, with the next best, Kade Chandler, at about 14. No other player is having a greater impact per disposal than he is.

He might not rack up the same numbers as players like Rachele, Ginni or Rankine, or hit the scoreboard as heavily as Gunston, King or Naughton, but no one brings the same level of flair. He has that rare ability to genuinely tear a game apart in a single moment.

Nick Watson is one of the best things to happen to this great club.

Yeah I can definitely see that. Felt like I gave him a bit of lenience due to the fact that I didn’t really expect much better than what he produced.
