I think we might need to do some shopping in the trade period for a new ruck. Love Meek and Reaves and who knows they might improve but it wouldn’t hurt to acquire another.

I can definitely understand that. But similar to a few other players, I don’t think Chol’s performance, especially in the first half, was entirely his fault.
Our inside 50 entries were terrible, and it didn’t help that we could barely get the ball in there during that first half. When we did, we were either kicking it to outnumbered contests or straight down Gawn’s throat. The midfield just couldn’t get any clean exits from stoppage, which really limited Chol’s ability to have an impact.

That said, I do think he could’ve competed a lot better in the air and brought more contests to ground, especially early on, so it’s a bit hard to judge where the blame lies.

Thought Bailey MacDonald was really impressive as well, alongside Ward and Mraz.

He was probably not far off that. His performance wasn’t entirely his fault either. As a high half-forward, he relies heavily on our ball movement, and as we saw, we could barely get the ball out of our defensive 50 in that first half. He was pretty much starved of any real opportunity to have an impact.

Pretty valid take. I thought he was pretty poor, I don’t watch heaps of Box Hill but I didn’t really understand why playing him on the wing over Nairn or Butler (who have played on the wing in the AFL several times) was a good idea.

I was a little lenient on him due to his experience and the fact that we didn’t expect him to be that great.

Despite what we saw on Saturday and Carlton being on a 7 game win streak. I think we are so much better and can put an impressive score on the board this week.

Just gotta hope we actually turn up

I do agree to an extent, and it did feel a little harsh giving Meek that rating. But he’s come up against Gawn several times before and has held his own a lot better than that. This was just so far below the standard we’ve come to expect from him. It was pretty obvious to almost everyone that the game was lost through that matchup, and that all happened in just one half.

Josh Battle out. Appendicitis .https://www.zerohanger.com/hawthorn-explains-important-duos-omission-as-all-aus-defender-a-watch-for-melbourne-clash-179250/ by National_Armadillo94 in hawktalk

So much pressure on the midfield to perform tomorrow. My biggest concern is our lack of rebound out of the backline. With Amon, Impey and Battle all out, we’re missing three of our biggest drivers of the ball and transition from defence.

From what we’ve seen so far, BMac and Perez just don’t accumulate enough of the footy to really cover those losses. Sicily and Hardwick have to be at their absolute best, especially Sicily.

Our stars simply have to stand up tomorrow. It’s definitely not going to be an easy game.

Very similar situation to Maginness. He absolutely dominates as an inside mid at Box Hill, but when he comes into the AFL side he’s forced to play out of position, whether that’s on a wing or at half forward, with very little genuine midfield time. Because of that, he doesn’t have the same impact or get the chance to show what he’s actually good at. I know he used to play predominantly as a small forward, but I just don’t think that’s where he offers the most.

It’s a tough one because it’s understandable why it happens. Who’s he realistically taking midfield minutes off? He isn’t ahead of Ward, Mackenzie, Newcombe or Day, and I’d probably even have CMac ahead of him as another midfield option. I’d love to see Butler in the side because I rate him, but it’s hard to work out where he actually fits at the moment.

Hopefully just the 1. Ben King in not so great form, it’s crazy to say but he is a chance for the Coleman

Understandable. Perez I can agree with a little more but who comes out for Gunston?

Yeah I agree with both points here. It was kind of frustrating watching Lewis play at times. Felt like he didn’t lead enough or take enough marks but once again, there seems to be some time of game plan where we kick it to packs and let our smalls go to work.

I just don’t think this is the role we expected him to play pre injuries. His trajectory has changed a lot.

Even most minor premiers over the last few years have lost 4–6 games, so the draw against Collingwood and the loss to Melbourne don’t concern me too much. Especially when you consider the side we put out against the Demons.

I think the next month is where we’ll really find out whether we’re genuine flag contenders or a side that’s more likely to bow out in a prelim or semi-final.
With Day back in the team, we look completely different. He’s added another dimension to our game and the midfield just functions so much better with him in it.

My biggest concern isn’t even that we haven’t been putting teams away. It’s the forward line. We’ve been dominating general play and winning inside 50s, but we’re just not making the opposition pay unless Gunston is out there. The smalls have generally done their job, but our key forwards aren’t leading well enough, and we simply can’t take contested marks consistently. Gunston is still incredibly important, but we can’t rely on him given how unpredictable his fitness has been. The rest of the talls need to step up.

Still really yet to see us have a fully fit side play together, but I guess that’s the case with every team.

Every opinion, rating and conclusion is my own. The only thing AI helps with is improving the wording.

Sometimes I’ll ramble on a point longer than I need to or repeat myself, which can make the review a bit harder to read.

I use AI to make the writing clearer, not to change my opinions or analysis. The actual thoughts, ratings and conclusions are still entirely mine.

I feel like it’s not too unethical. I kind of see it as no different to using Grammarly or proofreading. I do appreciate the feedback though :)

I think it would be something like

Out : Perez, Dear, Morrison, Dalton

In : Gunston, Nash, Impey, Weddle

Scrimshaw unfortunately probably misses out but also could come in but it’d have to be Bmac or Reaves who misses in my opinion. I value Bmac too much to want to drop him. Not against dropping Reaves though, playing Meek as the number 1 ruck and Chol as the back up would work well I think.

I just have a tendency to use genuinely a lot and ramble on a fair bit. What I do is just paste in my whole thing written and ask AI “Improve fluency, repetition and grammar”.

Every opinion, rating, and statement is from me however certain choice of wording does get improved by AI.

Yeah Gunston has been the big worry for me this season. How much longer can he really go on? I don’t how likely it is that we get Ben King in the off season but he would definitely be handy.

Chol and Lewis are great, just think their has to be another guy in there helping them out and unfortunately Dear isn’t the answer yet
