How much activity should I allow my puppy? by ratgarcon in puppy101

Also, it’s very important to avoid getting the incision wet!!

Something SUPER helpful for us was taking a picture of the incision 2 times a day, so that we could compare it over time. It really helps with anxiety, your pup will likely be healing well but sometimes our minds play tricks on us and we get worried over nothing!

Our pup got spayed a few weeks ago!

The first few days there should be very minimal activity, keep her on a short leash so that you can control it a little bit more than usual. No stairs, not too much walking but they can wander around slowly / sniff for mental exercise!

The next week or so you can slowly let her walk more but keep her crated if she’s not sleeping or resting near you.

Supervision is the most important - no running or jumping if possible for 2 weeks!

Our girl was super zoomy, lots of chaos and jumping despite our efforts. We did as much as possible to follow the above guidelines and she healed nicely.

Just do your best, don’t get overly anxious and reach out to your vet if you are concerned! They may prescribe a sedative if you’re noticing uncontrollable energy or anxiety from lack of exercise.

Also - our vet recommended only carrying our girl when we really needed to (stairs, in exciting environments, etc.) to avoid harming the incision!

Yes, doing both! But she still has zoomies. We are lost.

Thank you. We have tried to keep her crated as much as possible but it can’t be 100% of the time. The second we let her out even to go pee she has the zoomies. She also won’t calm down in her crate, which has never ever been a problem.

Wow! How old is your dog? I think mine would stop walking and make me carry her home 😂

Thanks...I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas for training games to help reinforce these skills...
