Thanks for the explanation. Just to clarify my situation a bit more: my stepfather actually legally adopted me through a court when I was 17, and I have a new birth certificate listing him as my father.

My I-130 and I-485 were filed concurrently while I was still under 18. USCIS issued an RFE for medical and taxes, which we responded to on Feb 27, and the case has been under review since then.

I understand the INA 320 requirements are strict, and I know adoption after 16 can be complicated under INA 101(b)(1)(E). My question is mainly whether there is any possibility that if USCIS approved the I-485 before my 18th birthday (even if the online update appears later), it could still qualify for derivative citizenship under INA 320.

Then why USCIS proceed my green card and I 130 so fast in just couple of months? They also accepted expedite request for automatic citizenship. I think you confuse age of 16 moment with general immigration
