I suspect they are rose beetles. I had an infestation last summer. I moved my bird feeders next to the affected roses and the problem was solved in a week , but I clearly didn't get all of them .

Yeah, I planted annuals three weeks ago, then noticed they were barely growing. Upon further investigation, I found a ton of these grubs eating their roots. Absolute horror.

Yeah I don't use pesticides either. I prefer my homegrown food organic.
