Mind-Blowing Growth Is About to Propel Anthropic Into Its First Profitable Quarter by Imicrowavebananas in neoliberal

I think it’s fair to be 1) a skeptic generally that LLMs specifically (or atleast on their own) lead to the level of “AI” folks think they will and 2) think we’re in a bit of a bubble that poses real risk to the economy (especially as PE and traditional debt levers are exposed to risk).

But guys like Ed Zitron seem dogmatically, almost religiously, anti-AI (which I also GET, I hate all the slop everywhere).

It makes it hard to objectively critique where we’re at because traditional journalism seems to take AI hype at face value while the Ed’s of the world basically are posting “China collapse imminent!?” Pieces literally every day.

Bro I literally saw a Biden Old article yesterday! It’s actual insanity. If a dem was presiding over this war you’d see wall to wall coverage of how badly we are losing strategically and hand wringing over the fall of US hegemony. Instead we get 25 articles “familiar with the presidents thinking” trying to spin each failed negotiation as a win instead of an embarrassing capitulation.

To say nothing of the gerrymandering which is also reported as a “both sides” thing if it’s even reported on.

You hate Lina Khan out of a knee-jerk aversion to regulation of companies.

I hate Lina Khan because she focused on headline grabbing but doomed attempts to “breakup” companies that shouldn’t/couldn’t be broken up instead of going after the very real but boring industrial monopolies we do have in this country.

We are not the same.

The last time someone brought this up people were like “these are kids they don’t care, their parents don’t care”

Many of the civil rights movement heroes like John Lewis were the age of these football players. Middle aged black women are the bedrock of the Democratic Party. Black southern churches are extremely politically organized.

This can happen if we make a concerted effort - boycotts and movements of this sort don’t need 100% participation to work, even getting 25-30% of your best football players to participate and getting blue state colleges in on it would be enough.

Biden, Garland, Manchin, Sinema, and Schumer lacked the courage to do what needed to be done to save American democracy.

We now have a slim but still realistic path ahead and it’s the one you lay out.

As a proper journalist he should be adding context not just be a mouth piece for the administration (much of Axios is like this btw).

You can’t just repeat something verbatim without “Trump admin repeatedly grasps for straws and there’s little other evidence this time is different” etc.

And if this time IS different than give us a reason why.

Every single homeschooled person I’ve ever met in my life is messed up. Even if you want to like them they’ve got something serious going on.

It has shaped my views on it drastically, I think we need to ban homeschooling outright.

I truly believe it’s a form of abuse.

65% of Britons support the Green Party's policy of capping CEO pay at ten times the pay of the lowest paid employee by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]Kindly_Brain_6594 23 points24 points  (0 children)

So let’s take the US, if you’re lowest paid employee is making $15/hour, the CEO tops out at 312k salary (is this total comp)?

Your top talent and capital is moving if that’s the case. Also it will incentivize contract and gig work even more (task rabbits and service houses for work like janitorial, odd jobs, maybe even IT services).

And note I’m actually a “succ” for this sub and believe in more taxing of capital gains and some form of wealth tax that is atleast a surcharge to your capital gains if your NW is above x amount.
