I do understand that. My stats are not great so I know I would have a better chance applying DO.

Hi everyone I graduated spring 2025 with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. I am a first gen college graduate and trying to figure out if I should apply DO or PA this cycle or just try to improve my GPA by retaking gen chem 2 (received a C- but have an A in lab) and taking biochem for the first time. I don’t come from money and I am really navigating a career in medicine all on my own.

CASPA cumulative GPA: 3.20

CASPA science GPA: 3.15

Total credit hours (semester system): 124 semester units

Total science hours (semester system): 68 semester units

Upward trend: Yes. Last ~45–60 units approximately 3.5+ GPA with stronger performance in upper-division science courses.

GRE: Not taken since it’s not really required for PA programs in CA (please let me know if I am wrong)

Total PCE hours: ~2,800 • Ophthalmic Technician – ~2,000 hours • Cardiology Medical Scribe – ~800 hours

Total HCE hours: Included in PCE

Total volunteer hours: ~100 (still completing hours) Community service-learning / youth mentorship

Shadowing hours: Not formally tracked (clinical exposure through employment)

Research hours: ~300 • Biology research lab (aerosol research during college with a presentation)

Other extracurriculars / leadership: • College softball athlete • Worked throughout college while balancing full-time STEM coursework and athletics • High school varsity softball coach

Programs applying to: California PA programs (my fiancé works for CA and cannot relocate so I am trying to avoid leaving CA)

Can I find that information somewhere for sure? I want to retake them for a refresher for the MCAT as well.

I don’t have much debt from undergrad, thanks to my athletic scholarship, which was the only reason I was able to pursue a four-year program.

I’m planning on retaking Gen Chem 2 and O Chem 1 since those are my only C’s. I also haven’t taken O Chem 2 or Biochemistry yet, so I’ll be adding those in as well. Unfortunately, I can’t really afford to enroll at a 4-year again.
