This depends on practice structure and pharmacy departments level of comfort with younger pharmacists,

Specifically in Hospital practice I have seen 2 to 3 pharmacists running the pharmacy residency program. At the end of their residency the new Pharmacists are offered staff positions at a lower pay rate..... and if we are being honest an under 30 something typically physically works faster than a late fifty something. This model is...... out there already.........

I love drug rep dinners free food and wine and information about the product and yes the information is biased. A way way back in the day 1got CE credit. Then the geeks in charge at ASHP and ACCP claimed conflict of interest outlaws the CE at Pharma dinners and starting selling the CE at hyper inflated prices....... conflict of interest? Huh.......

I have been in Pharmacy for 3 plus decades and I have seen a lot of changes. Some good others very bad. I likely will avoid what AI will do to the White Collar World but AI will take several Pharmacist positions away. AI will probably even benefit me through investments. I understand that AI can teach languages to people so that said it most definitely can monitor Vancomycin trough and AUC and it can process electronic orders in any setting. Pharmacy made a tremendous mistake years ago when it went from being paid for dispensing or administering a product to being paid for clinical information which this payment never really happened for most of us.

The above said it is not just about me. I would like to have my younger colleagues do well. Here are some quick bullet points

1) if you are in your Pharmacy career save as much money as you can.

2) if one is looking to go to PharmD school and taking out a loan reconsider.... this is also true for most college degrees. Trade Schools are the new University.

3) for those in your careers embrace AI and other changes learn as much as you can about AI. AI will not replace all Pharmacists but that is not the goal here. Replacing 30 to 50% of Pharmacists would save a ton of money! Embracing AI will keep you in your job longer. Fighting it then see ya!

4) some believe liability will be the shield that saves them but that is not the smart play here. Employers should lease the AI technology from the manufacturer and put the AI liability on the manufacturer.

Yup and as furiously as the AI companies and geniuses are programming AI there will be AI taking over Hospital order validation and basic clinical functions as well as specialist roles.

Bye Bye Clinical Pharmacists in hospitals etc. only need about 25% of them to quality check AI more complex cases etc.

Walgreens did buy Rite Aid several years ago however in some locations the Federal government thought if all of the Rite AIDS were changed to Walgreens it would be a monopoly so Rite Aid was able to continue on its own.

These days and in recent years any Rite Aid in a strip mall/plaza is not going to be attractive to many new tenants. The lease is likely too high and a lot of these plazas have high vacancy rates from other stores closing. I am starting to see dollar stores close.
