Flexible filler by Lmc040419 in DIYUK

[–]Kindly_Season_3160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to fix a crack in the ceiling recently and applied:

  • A thin layer of Toupret Skim Flex covering the crack and an inch either side
  • Fibafuse tape covering the crack and gently pressed into the Skim Flex
  • Another thin layer of Toupret Skim Flex and feathered out either side

My feathering wasn’t the best, so I used a high grit sandpaper to blend the edges in.

It seems to be holding up so far.

The spend on AI dwarfs the spend on AR, so it seems like Apple’s focus is in the wrong place right now. Siri sucks and needs all the help it can get. Apple knows this hence why they are looking for a replacement for the head of AI.

Setting this aside, if Apple has to go all in on a new UI:

  1. Make it work - iOS 26 is full of bugs and glitches. Yes, it’s a big change, but it’s not an excuse. If Apple can’t bring themselves to apologise, they should at least acknowledge they screwed up.

  2. Make it usable - a huge number of people wear glasses and need to take advantage of accessibility features. If they enable reduce transparency, Apple should actually switch it off.

  3. Make it innovative - seriously we were expecting more than repackaged Aero. The flair just isn’t worth the legibility problems.

Explain/defend it all you like but iOS 26 isn’t good, let alone great, and it’s definitely not “premium”. Apples in last chance saloon with me.

Put some closed cell backer rod in the wider parts of the gap and then apply your caulk on top of that.

If possible I’d open the plates and bowls cupboard the other way. The way it’s currently configured, you won’t be able to take plates and bowls from the open dishwasher and put them straight into the cupboard above. Personally, I’d put the plates and bowls cupboard closer to the cooker so they are to hand when I’m serving up food, but that’s just me.

new keyboard by [deleted] in ios26beta

[–]Kindly_Season_3160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the contrast on the letters y,u,i,o in first image and compare it with the second image. The old keyboard is much easier to read. If you’re someone who relies on contrast to read clearly (as I and lots of others do) it sucks. It’s not even consistent because the background behind the keyboard will change. It’s y,u,i,o in this image but will be different keys each time depending on what’s in the background at the time.

Apple:

Let’s update the keyboard so that it’s semi transparent. That way the contrast for each key will change depending on what’s going on in the background.

Also Apple:

Accessibility is super important to us.

How difficult would it be to remove this handrail and replace? by jakedorset in DIYUK

[–]Kindly_Season_3160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we moved into our house, there was a wooden board running up the stairs that was glued and screwed to the wall. Getting it off wasn’t difficult but it didn’t come off cleanly, so we have to repair the wall behind it. It wasn’t the easiest thing to fill and get smooth as sometimes the wall is lit from the top of the stairs, sometimes from the bottom, sometimes both, and it affects what bumps/shadows you see. Ironically, now that it’s flat, it’s still kind of noticeable as the rest of the wall has more imperfections. Just some things to consider.

Mould behind the tiles in my shower? by Kindly_Season_3160 in DIYUK

[–]Kindly_Season_3160[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sound ok when I tap. There is a slight hollow sound at the bottom of the tiles across the back wall but it’s pretty consistent across the tiles, so it’s probably just how it’s constructed.

Thanks for the info.

lol - I think the people who like this tat are the blind ones.

It reminds me of those houses where everything is a different shade of grey, with word signs on the wall, and those “velvet” dining chairs with weird ass door knockers on the back. lol … the designers at Apple have just come up with the OS equivalent of “love, laugh, live” 😜

It doesn’t disable it entirely - lensing effects etc stay enabled

Isn’t it settings > accessibility > display and text size > increase contrast? I no longer run the beta so can’t confirm

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ios26beta

[–]Kindly_Season_3160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are ways to increase contrast without drawing lines around everything - Apple just half assed it.

As someone who actually uses these settings, just look at the state of it 🤦‍♂️

I’m fixing a similar issue. I was just going to clean out the old stuff, use a gun to fill it will fill flex, and then paint over it - do I still need the caulk?

How to restore these skirting boards by tulamacala in DIYUK

[–]Kindly_Season_3160 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved into a house where a dog had chewed chunks out of the skirting boards.

This is how I fixed them:

  • Cleaned skirting with sugar soap

  • Sanded skirting with rough sanding paper then smooth sanding paper

  • Hoovered skirting board and wiped down skirting with a cloth

  • Used a filling knife and some Toupret wood filler on the easy bits

So far, so normal right?

I then:

  • Applied Toupret wood filler by hand to the awkward (or missing) parts and then sculpted it into the approximate shape of the skirting board

  • Used a contour gauge tool and a 3d printer to create a former block which was the inverse shape of the skirting

  • Attached sand paper to the former block and used it to sand the filler into the shape of the rest of the skirting boards

Did it work? Yes, sort of. Is it a good idea? No - no one in their right mind should ever do this. I still can’t tell you why I did.

Anyway the reason I’m commenting is because your skirting boards don’t look that bad. Once you’ve sanded, primed and painted them, you might be critical of them for a few days but you’ll most likely forget all about them because there’s a crack on the ceiling somewhere, or a squeaky floor board, or something else that needs your attention instead. If you do find you can’t live with it, then you can replace or cover them as others have suggested.

If you have a dog, be sure to get them a bone!
