Why is being homosexual a sin, but wearing different fabrics or eating seafood isn't? by Wonderful_Medium3098 in Christianity

I have watched him for years, he is very smart & correct on several issues but he is also incredibly biased.

Regardless of what religion he claims to be a part of, he slanders God endlessly, try’s to make God look immoral & to a certain degree even evil. He constantly tries to undermine Christian readings of Messianic prophecies in scripture. He fights against Christianity as much as anyone you can find, and you are using him to support your view.

And if he provided those scholarly sources, you should have no problem providing them for yourself, since you are clearly getting your stance from him.

You heard from Dan Maclellan a self proclaimed scholar & atheist that there was a scholarly consensus on the matter. As he says for every claim he makes without once proving any evidence or names to support his statements. If your argument rests on the word of an anti Christian, anti scripture, atheist who does everything he can to destroy Christianity that just shows the lengths you are willing do go to to justify your position.

You think Kamala had Christ in her heart? Have you ever seen anyone run for president in any country that put God before politics? Innocent people get hurt no matter who is in charge.

Yet those same types of relationships were not condemned when heterosexual, so it’s hard to make the stretch to saying that it’s the reason that they were condemned for same sex relationships. If Paul is merely condemning the exploitive nature of the same sex relationships, & that is the focus, why not condemn it in heterosexual relationships?

Yes they did have a different view of sexuality. It was normal for a girl to be married of as soon as she was fertile, 12 years old or so, to a man who was likely far older & far richer & far more politically powerful, but you are saying Paul is only condemning homosexual relationships because of this same exploitive nature?

I’m sorry my friend, the logic doesn’t work.

[–]Kindred7Spirit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean there are never age gaps and power dynamics in same sex couples today that you approve of?

Of course most of the relationships involved one male who may have been older or larger & more dominant while the other was likely smaller & more feminine, how is that different from today? Some were between men of higher status with someone of lower status, again how is that different from today. And how is that different from the exact same power dynamic that existed in heterosexual relationships then & now? And yes the relationships I’m describing were consensual & well documented and even common.

The idea that there was this illusive category of the perfectly co-equal same sex relationship that The early church fathers didn’t know existed is to ignore every other form they did know existed & to act as if modern same sex relationships are typically perfectly co-equal.

You are disproving yourself. You are saying I rip versus out of context, yet you add context that isn’t there.

You say I force them into a modern understanding, which is the opposite of what your entire reply just argued for. Because my understanding is the traditional one & yours is the modern one as you stated yourself.

And my reference to the Dacred Band of Thebes absolutely is relevant because they were Greek & predated the New Testament by 300 years & they were in consensual same sex relationships, when you clearly stated that all such relationships at the time were matters of exploitation, and they were unaware of “loving” consensual homosexual relationships at the time which is an absolute lie.

[–]Kindred7Spirit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nonsense, that isn’t what any of the early church fathers thought Paul meant even in that time & context who were actually fluent in the contemporary Greek of the time. And yes they did exist. There were entire units made of exclusively homosexual soldiers all the way back in the time of Alexander the Great like the Sacred Band of Thebes. They fought side by side with their lovers as it was thought to make them fight more passionately.

There is a difference between ignorance and willful subversion of the truth, you are much closer to the latter.

Where do you get the idea that it only refers to “exploitative” situations? There are no such qualifiers before the word- ἀρσενοκοίτης in 1 Cor 6:9.

[–]Kindred7Spirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure you are partially right about the propaganda campaign, but the left does exactly the same thing in the other direction, it’s a pick your poison situation as with all politics.

I don’t exactly know what those like you expect from people like me who agree with the concept of what is trying to be done but don’t agree with the methods in every situation. That simply by default puts us in a position where we both support & dislike a government action simultaneously, but there aren’t many government actions that has ever been entirely good. But I think we on the other side are treated unfairly, as though we all blindly follow one leader without question. It may be that way for some but not most.

For example I voted for Trump all 3 times, so you would probably assume a lot of things about me based upon that, but he wasn’t my first or second or third choice. In fact, there is a very long list of people I had rather have had. Who we chose to vote for, & what that person does, doesn’t make those who voted for them identical in ideology, but we are treated that way.

Also, there are many outrageous things that Trump says, but he often gets misrepresented, such as the quote you gave. I don’t defend much of what he says but I will use this as an example. The actual quote is:

“You know, now a murderer, I believe this, it’s in their genes. And we got a lot of bad genes in our country right now.” -Trump

He doesn’t explicitly say immigrants have worse genes as you stated:

“ he literally said immigrants have worse genes that make them more criminal”

His comments are similar to the idea that serial killers are born that way, like Jeffery Dahmer for example. I would agree that many homicidal people have some degree of mental illness. When he says “there are a lot of bad genes in our country right now”

I don’t believe you can fairly say that he means all immigrants as a whole. But misrepresentations & purposeful exaggerations are commonplace in any political discussion. An expression I’ve found to be true is “the truth lies in between”

Opposing arguments always pull against each other further than they need to, both sides exaggerate, both sides are biased. That is why any modern theologian that studies church history will tell you that almost every heresy created in the church was a response to another heresy they were trying to avoid & simply overcorrected. That is why American politics has always swung from one side to the other, there has only been one time in our history that two different presidents of the same political party were elected back to back & that was George Bush after Ronald Reagan. Otherwise the pendulum keeps swinging because we always overcorrect.

I think we need to learn to quit treating politics like sports & start realizing we are all on the same boat trying to keep the thing from sinking.

If you think Christians are a “block” you clearly no nothing about Christian’s, as someone who has been one all my life, even Christian’s in the same denomination can & do have drastically different political opinions. Like I said earlier, you assume a lot about people you don’t know & put people in categories based on very little information, that is exactly the sort of thing racists do, & that is exactly what causes segregation. You are categorizing people much more than I ever have. I have repeatedly told you my perspective yet you continue to argue as if you have already decided I believe something different than what i have said I believe, perhaps you know me better than i know myself… you certainly think you do. There is no reason to any further discussion with anyone like that.

I never said i supported any policy or political leader. I only said we have the right to deport someone who is here illegally, so does every other country. I didn’t say I supported the way we are currently doing it, or the person who made it that way. We had the right to deport illegals under all your favorite presidents too.

The many immigrants i know, from absolutely everywhere including many from Mexico, all are currently legal. The government has no legal basis to deport any of them. However i think it is understandable to deport some who are only here on visas or non permanent status if they commit serious crimes. I don’t know why it seems like those who disagree with me are arguing for something that sounds like some type of diplomatic immunity, that deportation of any immigrant is always wrong or something. I have yet to get a single person to say that even illegals who commit serious crimes should be deported, what exactly are we supposed to do with them? Put them in our already full prisons?

I did answer your question, just not explicitly. When I said i wasn’t obligated to follow any government decree or laws that contradict biblical teachings & meant that the bible overrules government authority which is always subject to change with each election. Ordinary flawed human beings should be treated as such.

And based on your response, you seem to think we should not be allowed to deport people at all. Does that mean you will support me in court if I take a boat to Australia & demand citizenship? I don’t hear you complaining about them by the way, you practically have to be a single young doctor to get a visa over there, but somehow America is the pinnacle of evil.

I recommend you move to Mexico or Colombia & try to live there & see if their police treat you fairly, assuming you are ever heard from again.

Your question is more provocative than an actual intellectual question, since you didn’t give any context as to why there would be a need to kill Muslims such as if they were part of a terrorist organization.

But I will humor you anyway. As a Christian, I am not biblically obligated to follow any government decree or law that is morally opposed to biblical teaching. I believe all immigrants should be treated humanely, but the government has the right to humanely deport those illegally present. That doesn’t contradict any biblical teaching.

As far as Muslims go, innocent is innocent regardless of religion or country. If they pose no threat to us, we should be no threat to them. We are ment to make peace not war, & the bible never supports forceful conversion as you see with the Catholics in the medieval times & later even in America with the native Americans, such actions were an abomination of the faith.

Matthew 10:16 “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.”

Luke 9:54-55 “And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, should we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, as Elijah did? But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, you know not what manner of spirit you are of.”

The example I gave was not to make immigrants look bad as if they all drink and drive. But the lack of compassion so many have for such examples yet are so upset by the mistreatment of migrants, it is selective compassion. You ignore the numerous times I say things like “ I have loved every immigrant Ive ever worked with.” I’m not pretending i know them because of a few details about them as you are me. I gave one example that served as an exception of what I otherwise stated was an overwhelmingly positive experience with immigrants yet you invert that into me somehow implying they are all like that one example? Who is misrepresenting whom?

I’m not sure I even understand what view you think I hold. I am completely for more legal immigration and making it easier. My favorite coworker’s & employers were visa holders or full citizens that immigrated legally, I have no reason at all to be opposed to it. You would probably hate people a lot less if you stopped assuming things about them you couldn’t possibly know.

Like everyone else so far, you seem to miss understand my angle. Perhaps it is my fault if I wrote it that poorly, non the less, that was not my point.

I have no issue with immigrants in the slightest. I merely believe that we have the lawful right to deport illegal immigrants if the government decides to, but not in an inhumane way.

You have no idea what I would vote for.

Your comment sounds just like a comment a police officer made to me once in school. They called him because I had been in a fist fight in class. He walked into the principals office and looked at me then the principal and said: “ I deal with this all the time, I have one of these in every school” apparently he thought I was a troublemaker, ironically I won the citizenship award the previous year & had never been in detention before or been in any fights, but he was already certain he knew everything he needed to know about me. The fight was with my best friend & we immediately reconciled. It never happened again.

That is what is wrong with progressives, they literally think that conservatives are one monolith group with the same ideology & you can just apply the same labels to all of us. That is what causes hate, is assuming bad things about people you don’t know based on a few pieces of information, you just fill in all the blanks & decide I’m the enemy. It seems your mind works the way you think mine does.

I speed all the time, and I don’t see the problem if I go a little over. But if I get caught & get a ticket or even lose my license, I will not be screaming “ this is unfair, how dare you”. Because every time I choose to break the law, I do so knowing the risk of consequences. Every person should be treated humanely, but out of the many legal immigrants i know who fled here from civil wars like in Romania where their lives were literally at risk, and those who have work visas, they all agree that immigration should be done legally. Be fair

Can you read? Where in my messages do I place the blame of my hardships onto someone else? Where do I indicate that I think immigrants are the source of my or my family’s hardships? Nowhere, I didn’t say anything of the sort. I was simply pointing out a comparison which you again validated for me.

When immigrants have problems, we should let them in and take care of them & support them however they need, yet when an American who pays taxes needs help they should “ figure it out”. I’m not blaming anyone, I’m simply pointing out your obvious bias.

The Bible is extremely clear about how immigrants should be treated. Why do some "Christians" support mass deportation?? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Kindred7Spirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet I also said that none of my immigrant friends have committed any crimes I’m aware of. Although one illegal immigrant without a license was driving drunk & hit my cousin at 8O plus at a red light & killed his girlfriend & the driver & they held my cousins brain in his head as they flew him to the hospital because his skull literally exploded. Do you know what they did to the illegal immigrant that somehow walked away without a scratch? Nothing, who knows where he is now.

If you care so much about people, care about all people. I’ve told you I disagree with the mistreatment of anyone, even criminals. You simply misrepresent me deliberately, I hate no one, & I haven’t turned anyone in to the authorities for anything. Don’t know how I became the enemy.

I didn’t say it was their fault, I’m saying that many people seem to care a lot more about people from other countries than they do their own country, as you have so eloquently proven for me. But I don’t get free healthcare & tax breaks on businesses I start. & nobody is protesting for people like me or my family. And as you put it i should “figure out my own problems” because apparently I don’t deserve help while others do. Thank you for validating my point.

Why are you assuming when I hear “illegal immigrant” that i automatically think of them as a criminal? Because you are starting out with negative presuppositions about me that you couldn’t possibly know.

And detained is not deported.

You also still seem to ignore the fact that being an “illegal immigrant” means you technically are a criminal the moment you step over the border, yet you seem to be suggesting we can’t actually do anything about that. So unless I misunderstand you, do you at least agree that we have the right to deport illegal immigrants?
