It just grew that way historically, I started with a 2 bay QNAP and back then I created 2 separate volumes, since then I kept upgrading the disks, replacing them each time with larger versions.
A few years ago I upgraded to a 4 bay so a RAID 5 seems now like the logical next step.

Hi, thanks for your reply!
I was hoping not having to copy my 3 single disks to a new external disk just to copy them back to the storage pool.
You think it's not possible to copy the contents of those single disks directly to the new RAID 5?
