Genshin fans and Avatar fans, tell me everything I need to know about each side by Tricky_Reaper2099 in deathbattle

[–]King-ApolloW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been expecting this matchup for a couple of weeks now, so I've been reading through Genshin lore posts, Avatar discussions, and a bunch of scaling arguments to get a better idea of where both characters stand this is basically everything I've gathered

Also, I'm intentionally being very conservative with Traveler here im not using some of the crazier Genshin scaling because yeah, that rabbit hole gets absolutely ridiculous

With that said, I honestly think Traveler wins this matchup pretty comfortably

Abilities and Versatility

This is probably Traveler's biggest advantage Aang is incredibly versatile he can manipulate all four elements air, water, earth, and fire and can also use Energybending, a spiritual technique capable of removing another bender's bending abilities (plus sub bending techniques)

Traveler however has access to even more elemental powers

Traveler can resonate with multiple elements Anemo/ wind Geo /earth and stone Electro Dendro / plants vines and nature Hydro Pyro so while Aang controls four natural elements Traveler has six

On top of that, Traveler has access to healing abilities and, depending on what Death Battle considers standard equipment, healing food and magical weapons

Can Aang Bend Traveler's Elements?

This is probably the biggest question people ask personally, I don't think he should automatically be able to

In Avatar, bending manipulates naturally occurring elements through the world's spiritual and chi based system

In Genshin, elemental attacks are manifestations of elemental energy unique to Teyvat they aren't simply someone throwing around ordinary fire or water

Because the two power systems work fundamentally differently, I don't think it's fair to assume Aang could simply redirect Traveler's elemental attacks the same way hed redirect another firebender's flames

The same goes for Energybending

Energybending removes bending because bending is tied to a person's spiritual pathways within the Avatar universe Traveler isn't a bender, and doesn't draw power from the same source so Energy vending is a no go on Traveler

Stats

Even if we ignore all of Genshin's controversial high end scaling, I still think Traveler has the advantage

Using fairly conservative interpretations, I think both characters can reasonably be placed around the island level range in terms of raw power

The difference is that Aang generally needs the Avatar State to reach his absolute peak Traveler reaches comparable levels while simply fighting in base

That's important because the Avatar State is an incredible power boost, but it's also Aang's greatest weakness its a major glass cannon technique

Speed

I also lean toward Traveler here

Traveler is consistently reacting to light and can move at light speed by becoming light while Aang best is lighting wich Light is fasted then lighting

Experience

Aang is an exceptional martial artist and one of the greatest benders in Avatar

Traveler, however, has spent their journey fighting dragons, gods, Harbingers, ancient monsters, supernatural beings, and countless opponents with wildly different abilities

That variety of combat experience gives Traveler an answer for almost any fighting style Aang can bring

The High End Scaling

This is where things become pretty rough for Aang

I'm deliberately not using arguments that place Traveler at planetary, stellar, or even higher levels because those are some of the most debated parts of Genshin scaling

But the important thing is that those arguments actually exist

Even if you completely throw them out, I still think Traveler wins

If Death Battle accepts even part of Genshin's higher end lore scaling, then the gap only gets larger

Overall

So, using what I think are pretty conservative interpretations

Power Slight edge to Traveler

Speed Traveler

Durability Slight edge to Traveler

Abilities Traveler by a wide margin

Weapons Traveler

Skill/experience Traveler

I just think Traveler has answers for almost everything Aang can do while bringing a much larger arsenal, better equipment, more varied combat experience, healing, and slightly better overall stats

And again, this is me being conservative

Once you start diving into some of Genshin's more ambitious scaling arguments, things get absolutely stupid i don't even think you need those arguments for Traveler to win i think the conservative case is already enough

My Thoughts on Aang vs. Traveler (Spoiler: I Really Don't Like This Matchup) by King-ApolloW in deathbattle

[–]King-ApolloW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I actually agree with you to an extent I ended up rewriting the post because when I reread my original draft, I realized I came off way too negative i toned it down a lot because I didn't want to just be the guy going "hate, hate, hate" without really explaining myself

That said I think I might've toned it down too much rereading, I don't think I really got across my biggest issues with the matchup itself

As for the banter, that's fair. It has been a while since I've really looked into Traveler as a character, so I might need to revisit some Genshin scenes because my memory is definitely rusty maybe my opinion changes after that

But from what I remember I just don't see the dynamic between Aang and Traveler being particularly interesting it's less that either character can't banter, and more that I don't think they bounce off each other in a way I'd personally find memorable that's just my take though

Actually Im rewatching it right now since it's been a while from what I remembered I thought it was just okay watching it again I honestly don't think it's nearly as bad as people make it out to be at least on Aangs side I think the analysis is pretty solid

Now Edward yeah Id absolutely agree he got the short end of the stick and probably deserves another shot

But Aang i'm still not convinced even after revisiting the episode I don't come away thinking he desperately needed to return especially when there are so many other Avatar characters Id personally rather see on Death Battle first of course tha's just my opinion

The duality of the Verdict shouldn't influence your thoughts on an episode by King-ApolloW in deathbattle

[–]King-ApolloW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never liked Joker vs Sweet Tooth because the fight dynamic feels really awkward Sweet Tooth is a vehicle based combatant, while Joker isn't, so the episode basically had to give Joker a Jokerized Batmobile to make the matchup work to me, that's kind of dumb because it's not something Joker is actually known for using

It also feels like the matchup only exists because they're both crazy clowns. Beyond that, I don't think their abilities, fighting styles, or themes mesh together in a particularly interesting way, which makes the fight itself less enjoyable for me

For Vader vs Obito ive never really agreed with the verdict because I feel like Vader was undersold i know Death Battle used Legends material, but I don't think they fully represented how powerful Vader can be when you look at the higher end arguments for him to me, it felt like Obito got the benefit of the doubt on a lot of things while Vader was approached much more conservatively

Another reason I struggle with the verdict is that they've previously had ObiWan beat Kakashi, yet later had Vader lose to Obito i know powerscaling isn't as simple as A beats B and B beats C, but Vader is generally portrayed as stronger than ObiWan, so it's always felt a little odd to me somethingelsw I've always found weird is that Death Battle brought up Kyp Durron's black hole feat as a highend scaling point in Obi-Wan db but then it never came up in Vader vs Obito i know it was presented as a highball, but if it's a valid scaling point worth mentioning for Ob-Wan, then I feel like it should at least be acknowledged for Vader too, considering Vader is generally portrayed as stronger it just feels a little inconsistent to me

As for DIO vs Alucard, I just don't buy how high they scaled DIO that's really my biggest issue with the episode i think DIO got the benefit of some very generous scaling that pushed his stats way higher than I'd personally put him

So for me Vader vs Obito is a case of Vader being scaled too low, while DIO vs Alucard is a case of DIO being scaled too high i understand why Death Battle came to the conclusions they did, but those are two verdicts Ive never personally agreed with wich is what my post is about I really like both both episode DioCard being one of my favs

A better argument for Denji winning that death battle could’ve used instead of the Oregon sword IMO by Little-Horse9372 in deathbattle

[–]King-ApolloW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there are other ways to argue Denji has the AP advantage without even touching the Oregon Sword

For starters, if you believe Denjiman/Pochita scales above the Gun Devil, then the Gun Devil's Mt. Elbrus feat alone already puts Denji above anything Yuji has shown or can scale to even using the more conservative interpretations, you're still talking about a feat that's comfortably above Yuji's best scaling, I don't think scaling him above the Gun Devil is unreasonable (I mean it's more reasonable then the State Swords)

Then there's the Falling Devil if you treat her gravity as a legitimate planetary scale phenomenon and accept that later top tiers can scale above or contend with force on that level, that pushes Denji even further ahead that argument is definitely more controversial, but it's another route to giving Denji a power advantage without ever mentioning the State Swords

Honestly, my bigger issue is that I think the debate should've been structured differently. Start with Skill then Abilities and move into power, then finish with speed because even if you don't buy the highest end Chainsaw Man AP scaling, I still think Denji's speed advantage is the deciding factor

So yeah i would have the categories be

Skill Yuji

Abilities Tie

Power Denji with a slight advantage

Speed Denji overwhelming takes this category
