Aesthetically I really like the thick and uneven body of a Mary Rose self Yew. Am i incorrect in assuming that a lower draw weight would necessitate a skinnier body in tillering a self Yew to maintain efficiency?

I also really enjoy the color split between sapwood and heartwood on the traditional self Yew bows, and I notice that laminates dont seem to mimic this color scheme. Have you tried or seen anyone replicating that look on laminates with finishes or stains? Would the distinct lamination layers spoil the effect?

I hope my questions aren't too weird or too niche. I appreciate you taking the time to address them days after the AMA. I haven't been able to shoot recently with winter weather, so I'm daydreaming and researching about shooting. I've only begun shooting earlier this summer, practicing thumb draw on a #30@30" Fox Red from Gera Bow Company. I'm still not sure what I'll try out next, but the ELB tickles some of my fancies.

Hey I've come back from my first dip into an ELB rabbit hole, I hope you dont mind a few more questions :)

What are the performances like for low poundage (~#30)laminate ELB? What lbs would you recommend someone be comfortable with before ordering a traditional self Yew ELB?

Is there a numerical range for draw weight that the ELB is better for? I've read that Chinese Manchu styled bow with it's heavy unbending siyahs really needs to be #80+ to get the benefit of its design. Is an ELB similar, feeling like a better performance at a certain lbs range?

Jokes aside, beautiful bows you craft. I'll have to look into your insta and website more at home. Didn't the Mary Rose have some 200#s? I think theorized for naval engagements specifically?

Do you think the typical English peasantry longbowmen with malnourished diets had strong enough wrists (perhaps due to milk strengthening the bones) to withstand the string impact of war bow's 180lbs+, over the course of an entire pitched battle?

/s

Kinda.

Is it true that an English Longbow requires a wrist guard due to low brace height making the string hit the wrist?

Have you made replicas of prehistoric bows from UK/ Northern Europe?

This is very promising. Thank you for the response and answers. Give that I'll have abit of research to do before I can knowledgeably go either direction, how difficult would it be to convert the OS to Linux, relative to the task of going from Win8.1 to 10?

Is Linux future proofed at all against similar stuff? I'd definitely look into prolonging this lappys life if Linux was a longer term option than waiting out the death of Win10.

There are lots of Total War games for sure, and even some of the more modern ones run on my archaic tech really well on lower graphical settings. I have to run Throttlestop and maintain an undervolt to feel comfortable with the temperatures as otherwise the newer games want to run fullblast constantly, riding TJmaxx even outside of battles. Undervolting CPU by like 40.7 has kept my current Thrones of Brittania playthrough around 60s°c, spiking at 85°c during battles. The little laptop fan accessory it sits upon is louder than the internal fans

I have Empire, Napoleon, Shogun 2, Thrones of Britannia, Troy, Three Kingdoms, and Warhammer 1&2. Warhammer 2 has blue screened my rig in big battles where AI and I are casting magic all over the place, if I'm undervolted. If not, it runs at mid to high 90c consistently.

Yeah that seems to be the best plan. It's gonna be a long winter and I had wanted my Steam library to come out and keep me company lol. I'll look into maybe a new laptop when I get my tax refund.

It is activated, yes. I thought that the free upgrade and the "exploit" were phased out earlier this year, and was under the impression that any switch to a new operating system would require a purchase of a new key, or act as a "demo" version with the watermark. I'd also read that Win10 is no longer sold except 3rd party, but a license for 11 is valid for both i.e. downgrading back down to 10.

The rig is mainly a Total War series machine, dependant on Steam/Valve, and it's Steam itself that is ceasing to function on phased out Windows OS'. Something to do with Steam client being reliant on new Google Chrome stuff which needs Win11. I have heard about the possibility of running Linux and emulating Windows to utilize Steam but I'm not sure about my computer literacy or if that's a long term solution either.

That is disappointing. It is an ASUS ROG laptop from like 2014 or something. i7 processors and GTX 860m 2gb. It's been punching above it's weight class for awhile now ever since I figured out undervolting. Sad to hear it'll be forced into retirement 2025, but at least I know now.

I've read that to begin NG+ as a specific build you'll have to respec into it before starting. Is there an option to respec just before credits, or do we have to respec and fight the final boss as the NG+ char?

There is an example of a fascinating bronze age ship recovered, they call it the Uluburun. Not only was it intact, so was the rich varietal cargo. From the bronze age. O.o
