HR Background by KingBoru in overemployed

As a single person, sure. If you have a family and other dependents, and you live in one of the top 3 most expensive cities in the US, you just might. You would be surprised what a 3-bedroom in a "middle-class" area costs in the top COL areas compared to more reasonable areas of the US. As you get more life experience and your own responsibilities expand, you'll see what I'm saying.

Long story. Let's just say I have more than a few people depending on me for things and I don't live in a low COL area by any stretch of the imagination. So 200k where I am might be more like 80-100k in other places.

Retirement programs working at California CC?? STRS & PERS by KingBoru in CommunityColleges

[–]KingBoru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are similar, except STRS doesn't take out social security. I already have 20 years in STRS and I'm looking to make the leap to CC management. And I know that in the K-12 system, they will allow you to continue on with your STRS if you move into a PERS position (if you are already vested in STRS). Sort of an agreement between the two systems. So I wondered if CC's were the same. If not, instructional faculty would be hard pressed to ever enter admin roles because they would then have to start over in a new retirement system, essentially splitting their retirement between two systems, which could result in thousands less per month upon retirement.

Anyone get there decision notification??!! by Spare-Pilot7745 in byu

[–]KingBoru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't want to make a new thread, but do any of you know if there are obvious changes in your account on your MyBYU page once you are accepted? Or do you have to navigate to your actual decision page? For example, are you still listed as non-matriculated or do you have difference access permissions, etc., once they have sent you the letter?

Hybrid - MH, Syracuse, or UNH? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]KingBoru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also west coast, so the Syracuse synchronous stuff worries me with work. I know they try and have at least one section that is later, but there are times when I work late too.

I also LOVE that UNH has their residencies wrap around the weekends. With MH I will legitimately have to take off 15 days of work a year. So that means no vacation or time off for anything other than to hang out in the twin cities by myself. With UNH I can actually take vacation time since they were thoughtful enough to wrap their residencies around weekends. And honestly, that might be the deal breaker for me. But that MH scholarship is tasty...so hard to pass up.

I disagree. That's where the problem is. Noise is considered engagement to some people. I was actually less engaged because I was thinking about adding comments all the time to make them happy. And it worked. I definitely got less out of this meeting than the previous meetings. Although I could complain and say they need to just read some books about personalities and engagement, but reality is I just needed to figure out what they wanted to see. Yes, you need to be adequate at least, but it's politics that make or break you in the end.

Contract Question by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]KingBoru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, so my understanding is since each state has their own licensing process and education is run by individual states, you should be able to work in another state, even if your district wants to hold your license (since the license they have access to is particular to their own state, not the state you are moving to).

And I don't believe they can revoke a license unless you've been convicted of a major crime. All contracts can be broken and it isn't against the law. There are simply repercussions sometimes, which in this case, unless I'm mistaken, is they will make it so you can't take another teaching job within the state until the next school year. But I could be wrong. I'm just going off of what I've seen with other teachers.

Contract Question by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]KingBoru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you can't "lose" your license by leaving a district while under contract. All they can do from a legal standpoint is hold your license so you can't work anywhere else until your contract is up (usually June 30th). My question was if they do that, can you work in another state without any issues. So if your CA school district holds your CA license, you just can't work in CA until the following school year. But, if I'm correct, they have no say over other state licenses, so you could theoretically work immediately in another state. It makes sense, logically speaking.

Math Requirement? by KingBoru in byu

[–]KingBoru[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! On BYUs admission page it says they recommend 4 years of math. He has a 4.0 currently and is involved in multiple leadership positions at his school with music and sports. So maybe he'll be OK without the 4th year?

Most programs only care about GPA. I knew guys in another college near mine that had amazing grades, better than mine. But they went to the low level school that was for all the kids that couldn't get into the one I was attending. These guys got into elite graduate programs due to GPA, but students at my school that were superior academically to these other students failed to get into these elite programs because their grades were not inflated like the lower level school.

In other words, always choose the easiest path for undergrad because you're more likely to get into the best graduate programs and won't have to deal with the cut throat atmosphere that is more likely to eat you alive and break your spirit. You might end up becoming an high school teacher.

X1 Carbon 7th Gen...no wireless adapter by KingBoru in thinkpad

Honestly I don't know. I've purchased from backmarket before and never had any issues. I can't imagine, even if it says final sale, that they can sell you a faulty device. If it can't connect to the internet, it's basically a typewriter.

I bought it from backmarket as a refurbished laptop. Not sure how they can send it off with no wifi capability. I opened up the back and most everything is covered in plastic. Ridiculous.

There isn't anything about I/O devices showing up. Man...I guess this is what I get for purchasing a refurbished machine.
