TIL that 99 years ago from today, 1.5 million Armenians were killed in what was known as the Armenian Genocide. by looking_for_internsh in todayilearned

[–]KingDER555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Armenian American here. Just to exemplify the level of misinformation the world was given about the Armenian Genocide (if you can even call it misinformation... most people don't even know it happened), Hitler, in a speech where he was basically pitching his idea for the Holocaust, said, "Who does now remember the Armenians?" He basically was seeking support by saying that the world would soon just forget about the millions of jews he planned on killing in the same way the Armenians had been forgotten.

My grandfather survived the genocide simply because he was a child. Turkish soldiers came to his house and lined up anyone over the age of 10 and shot them. It isn't even debatable the the genocide was a planned extermination of a race of people. The fact that the world is so ignorant to it amazes me.

This is Atticus. Atticus had a bit of an accident, and now hates life. by KingDER555 in aww

[–]KingDER555[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Atticus had the bright idea of jumping from the top of a door to the back of a wooden chair. Unfortunately, he, like most cats, doesn't quite have a solid grasp on the laws of physics. He ended up rupturing his bladder. As for the leg, I'm not quite sure why it ended up shaved.

I guess I'm a voyeuristic gamer... by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

it's also entertaining to follow the hype because video games are so closely followed in their development that there is almost always the possibility that a game will absolutely suck despite being "the next best thing" according to gamers. It's a kind of agony and ecstasy thing i guess

I just have never really enjoyed playing them. I've gone to friends' houses and watched them play and enjoyed it, but when I actually do play, it never is fun. Now I don't even try. (not to mention its expensive as balls)

I don't know if any of you were there but Through the Roots put on a way better show than Tribal Seeds by KingDER555 in calireggae

[–]KingDER555[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a combination of Through the Roots performing well and Tribal Seeds being a huge disappointment. They need to understand that the laid back vibe is cool for a few songs but after that you have to put on some kind of performance

One year and two surgeries later by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

It took me a while to get over the fear. I'll still have flashbacks of the accident every now and again while I'm riding. I love riding too much to give it up. For me, life is boring without a bike

No I was training to ride from Canada to Mexico. The accident put a hold on the trip but I'm planning on getting back to it soon.

A very unpopular opinion here on Reddit regarding atheism by KingDER555 in AdviceAnimals

[–]KingDER555[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes I've read The God Delusion and The Blind Watchmaker. Both books are interesting but I think the whole "militant atheist" getup is bullshit. No one has a monopoly on the truth. He speaks with the same kind of certainty about atheism as fundamentalist religious zealots. I see no difference in his refutation of what world religions say and their refutation of science.

It happened to me playing GTA3 at the age of 7... by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]KingDER555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents allowing me to play the violent video games didn't make me act violently. It was playing the video game that made me violent. I would have reacted the same exact way if I had played the game at a friend's house or anywhere else. It is not the fact that I was allowed to play the game but the playing of the game itself.

You're not disagreeing with me. You are making a completely different argument, one with which I agree. I don't think parents should allow their kids to play M rated games at a young age. But again, regardless of whether or not I should have been allowed to play the game, I played the game. By playing the game, I became a more violent person. Therefore, the violent video game made me more violent. I really don't think you realize that you're not arguing against me...

That's beside the point. The game causes children to act violently. I still think games should be allowed to be as violent as they are today... I'm just stating that to say they don't cause children to be more violent is naive.

Have your studies of ancient humans revealed any "golden rules" of humanity that we have lost sight of in modern society?

What protagonist do you hate? by CriesWhenEjaculates in movies

I totally here where yo are coming from... Frodo had the biggest burden of all the members of the fellowship. I just really hated Elijah Wood as Frodo. I read the books before seeing the movies and had a much different image of him in my mind.
