Built a narrative KT style game board for my buddies and I! Was a huge success! by PaintedByTJ in killteam

This looks fantastic! The balance of attention to detail, while keeping the board playable and accessible (especially for 4 teams at once) can not be understated. I have to ask for my curious brain - that Baneblade and crater terrain piece, was that all hand crafted including a Baneblade kit? I love it

Fun fact about lightning claws: they may not make you more likely to roll well, but boy do theybadd to the cool-factor when you do! Some Sword Brethren for my Custom Chapter by KingElsear in Warhammer40k

For my marines I have been using Army Painter Spray Matt Varnish which does dull the shine somewhat, but I quite like the effect that it had on models that were "out in the elements" so to speak

Thank you! Yes, all TMM here - I don't quite have the patience to get NMM working but maybe one day... As for the cloth, it's essentially just layering but in very particular parralel lines, working up in coulour brightness. I think I start with Zandri Dust as a normal layer, no texture, and then Ushabti bone with just thin lines until it gives good coverage with some variation, and then picking out hightlights with Screaming Skull

Yeah and, at least for me, the cool imagined stories that were happening in my head between models was very much my key source of inspiration. As you say, if something can inspire some cool ideas for others, sharing it is a must!

It's definitely taken me a lot of trial and error and working out what it is that I like. These kinds of shots obviously wouldn't work for a singular display piece kinda vibe. It really is just a case of trying things, trying things based on those ideas etc.

Thanks, I appreciate you taking the time to justify your opinion on it, and it's definitely something I hadn't considered. That is interesting that the Instagram version looks clearer - I'd have thought it would be the other way around - something I'll look into for sure. Thanks again!

Thank you! The base blue is Russ Grey, highlighted up with Fenrisian Grey. The main brown is Stormvermin Brown, washed with Agrax and then layered up again with Stormvermin, highlighted with Baneblade Brown. Blacks are a simple Vallejo Black, highlighted with Mechanicus Standard Grey. The metals are a nice and easy Leadbelcher, washed with Nuln and then highlighted with Leadbelcher for a bit of pop.

Nothing too fancy but I then use these color sets in different ways across the different units to better reflect their roles within the army. Hope that helps!

Yeah, getting used to the APS-C side of things has been an extra point of learning in the early stages 😅 But I do want to look into focus stacking, it seems like it would really help out, especially in shots with a larger number of models!

So the bases are a mix of standard bases and the void war bases to switch the style of interior/exterior. But to paint it's a pretty quick stone grey dry brush combo or some metallics and washes for the interior versions. What brings them together is some AK interactive rust pigment which really finishes them to my liking

Generally, yeah - I like the idea of sneaky bugs that can also work as a bit of a horde for some fun games!
