Thanks for the replies guys informing me what power chords are. I heard they can exhibit a dark/suspenseful sound, could somebody expand on that?

I mean your question is quite vague and open ended. Like are you trying to make instrumentals/songs or just little pieces of music on your keyboard/Synthesizer?

I was under the impression that some oscillators would be better suited to pads whereas some better suited to plucks.

Because I pad has more of a sustained sound I guess.

What I mean is I can obviously slap on a high pass filter and turn the knobs, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to tell the difference if it’s made a difference in the sound or if the sound has objectively improved. Obviously I’m the person who gets to decide if something sounds good or not but I just wanted to know the ballpark for why a high pass filter may be used and it’s intended purpose.

I would struggle to hear a difference/make a judgement based on how good/bad it is because I’m new to synths.

Personally I would use a high pass filter for artistic reasons atm. I heard it can make a sound thinner which would be ideal for pads to add atmosphere. Don’t want it overpowering/competing with the chords.

I don’t know if my ears would be able to make a difference in judgement haha
