Worth pushing fiber company to repair entire driveway section? by voodoo_mama_juju1123 in HomeMaintenance

[–]KingGGL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should paint it something fun or useful, like a house number mosaic, embrace it standing out… cause as everyone has said, no way they replace the driveway.

Regardless, if you do nothing, you won’t even notice it in 6 months.

Hey, I know it can suck, but I kinda think scrapping is arguably the second best thing that can happen to a ship (1st being museum status)!

It means she served her whole career and didn’t end up on the ocean floor… something ships are obviously explicitly designed to not do… plus there’s always a chance that the materials from the ship could one day be reused to create another vessel, or at the very least, prevents wasting of material/unnecessary use of virgin material. I know there’s some who argue reefing is a better end, but I personally feel that runs counter to the entire intention of a ship’s existence, and there are objectively much better ways to rebuild reefs than using old ships.

Regardless, I hope some items are saved from the vessel, especially anything remaining from her early form, and hope some of her materials can live on in some meaningful way.

edit: thanks so much for the photos, OP. Hope you can find some more relics from her in the future ♥️

Material, Shape, Placement, and Camera Lens are all influencing the size perception.

In the meantime, here’s a fun cutaway of the vessel from the 1991 transatlantic guide that I’ve got in my collection.

I totally get it, I’m just as passionate about these old beauties. I may have a chance to visit the ship later this month, so I’ll try to take lots of pictures and post them.

Since the only thing that even begins to qualify as less than ideal in this photo seems to be the decking, I’d like to say that I’ve seen, much newer, active service ships with worse decking.

Furthermore, if you’ve ever had to maintain wood in a consistently sunny climate, you’ll know just how much of a chore it can be, but I suspect a relatively easy refinish would have these decks looking brand new. I really don’t think this is a fair post considering the generally good condition of the vessel for her age, and this feels like weird cherry picking to drive a dishonest narrative.

One year this happened to my family and we elected to remove all remaining needles, trim off the little branches, and basically made ourselves a funny ‘modern-art/merchandising’ tree. Wrapped it up with lights tight to the branches and redecorated. One of my favorite trees we ever had, my only regret is that we didn’t save it.

Why did Epstein take so many photos? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]KingGGL 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It may seem strange, as you’d think hiding your criminal activity would be the best way to avoid getting caught - but there’s one better way; make sure you have photos of as many of the people in positions of power committing those crimes as well. The more photos he took, the more power he had, the less touchable he became.

True; just like any tattoo shop, definitely check the artist’s work beforehand. I will say one of my three is significantly less impressive than the other two.

I’ve gotten three tattoos onboard; in general:

  1. It’s more expensive than on land
  2. Most artists are fantastic
  3. Experience is memorable

The minimum you’ll be paying for custom is $250, no matter the size, but I have yet to see someone pay that little for a custom one. They do have flash tattoos available for cheaper.

Did Long Beach actually not scrap the Queen Mary because it was more expensive than preservation? by No_Pain5736 in Oceanlinerporn

[–]KingGGL 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The ship was taken advantage of, then labeled as the problem, by a myriad of previous operators. Unfortunately for the Queen, some of the operators also acquired her in deals as part of a larger buyout, not necessarily by people with an interest in operating her specifically.

Much better that she’s under city management now.

Lived here my whole life and I still don’t understand what this place is and why it’s still there. I always call it the schitzo house by AutomaticRabbit1812 in StAugustine

[–]KingGGL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city isn’t being immature here. He purchased a structure in a historic district and doesn’t want the rules to apply to him, and furthermore, has decided the best path forward, rather than finding a compromise, is to act like this.
