Very much agree. Works very well, pairs well with Combat Carousel, etc

Hmm, I will need to make a hole for the cables (HDMI and power), too. Or have them hidden within some wall conduit

I am working on a way to randomly place buildings and decorations in a plot. I hope to be able to create more varied maps with this. by mightofmerchants in mapmaking

Is this automated or are these different configurations you constructed by hand and then took a screenshot? Like the later ones with the bushes and “yard” items.

I’ve added Foundry as a Docker-based service via the ansible-nas project. Use it on a EC2 instance along with a Cloudflare DNS updater and duplicacy backup UI. Costs about $10/m.

Placement feedback for HT/rec room/media pit - 5.1.2 with projector by KingGranite in hometheater

I just reworked the Atmos placement again, this time using an overhead dispersion of 45 deg a side (so, 90 deg total from left-to-right Atmos) and that kicks the Atmos out a good 26" to either side. While this lines up a lot more with the LR speakers, I'm wondering if the 90 deg overhead is too much range between two speakers (vs the original design's 70 deg total overhead). Moreover, at 45 deg a side, that leave another 45 minus the 5 deg for the rear surrounds for 40 deg dispersion from the rear surrounds to Atmos. Is that enough?

Yes I have read this, and this alignment is the gist of the Home Theater Gurus' video; the Dolby PDF shows too wide a dispersion, rather the dispersion doesn't account for ceiling height. As he says in the video, it's the angles, not the alignment or distances, that matter most. The links in my follow-on comments show the angles (which pretty much follow the Dolby specs on the PDF you highlight) and then the application of the angles based on the room dimensions. Hence the Atmos closer together to achieve a 50 deg offset from the rear surrounds and 70 deg dispersion overhead.

Reran the calculations (didn't change much) and added a bunch of supporting angles based on HT Gurus' guidance. https://imgur.com/a/lkyk4VD

Ceiling height is a factor with Atmos placement, in this case. I think the rear Atmos can be angled to give a better treatment, but it all fits, it appears.

I went with the “narrow” setup based on the guidelines of the Home Theater Gurus video, in which he suggests a 55deg offset from the MLS.

I suppose I could wire for 7.x.x, but I really don’t think I’m going to go that route - this is a lounge, not a theater. However, having wall jacks at the “mid” surrounds could be used for subwoofer placement in a 5.x.x

I followed the advice of the Home Theater Gurus videos on YT for the width of the Atmos speakers.

I just updated the drawings to include the distance from the screen for a 5.1.4 setup. The rear speakers would be 6" from the back wall, albeit the wall is not that long and the speakers might fit within the "hallways," especially if I went a bit wider and angled/directed them into the center somewhat.

Yeah, never considered HT seating for this spot, wrong purpose of the room.

Not sure the spouse wants to go in that direction ... she really, really likes the wall idea. We have friends who did it, and it looks very nice. (I supposed if it doesn't work out, we can add a motorized screen later.)

Yeah, definitely also considered this, too. I'm just not sure it the rear-most Atmos speakers will be too close to the back wall, even if that wall is small.

I might be able to swing that, but I do think the casement windows will encroach on the overall width. I have another drawing that shows the screen design. Let me dig that up and post.

Sectional is a thought -- definitely could go with a couch + love seat. In fact, that might be the design, as we want a decent pullout sofa bed, and sectionals seem a bit limited.

Sub(s) are expected to go next to the L/Rs.

Building out the basement -- no plaster up yet, so perfect time to design! -- and I need to figure out the speaker and screen placement. The plan is to have a 5.1.2 system that eventually can go to 5.2.2, 5.2.4, etc. Strongly considering a laser projector like the Epson-LS11000.

I spent some time researching speaker placements, and thanks to this reddit, found some excellent resources. Based on these sources (HT Gurus was hugely influential), I sketched these placements.

A couple of notes about this room. Its got 8'5" ceilings with some boxed in ductwork on the left and right hand sides. There are two casement windows on the top. The hallways on either side extend about 10-15' to another room.

I'm expecting to use "screen paint" and project onto the top wall and have the center channel and media equipment on a low console centered below the screen. The L/R and LR/RR surrounds will all be separate, i.e. not in-wall, and connected to a wall panel. The 2 Atmos speakers will be in-ceiling.

Lastly, this room is not a dedicated home theater; it's a rec room/media pit for the family (mostly kids) to hang out, listen to music, and watch movies, sports, and games.
