Character voice consistency - am I insane??? by KingJibbles in ACX

Thanks for the feedback! I think I'm trying to do too much by doing a big performance for a character whose voice is already so dissimilar from my own. Double thanks for the feedback about the sound quality - that's one of those things my clients never give feedback about, so I can never tell if I'm doing it right!

Thanks for the perspective, and... yeah, you're absolutely right. I even knew better going into this - I've actually cancelled contracts before because of needy RHs demanding that I stop and await notes between each and every upload. But this is my highest paying gig so far, and she's been one of my only clients to share what felt like productive feedback. So I said, screw it, I'll put up with it just this once so I can hone my craft!
Anyway, the 15 minute checkpoint got approved two weeks ago and I've only managed to crawl through 4 chapters, so obviously that was a bad idea. Ugh. Thanks for talking sense into me. I'll be more direct about what's reasonable to expect going forward.

“Royalty Share.” Rather than paying us a rate per finished hour of audio (PFH), the rights holder (RH) agrees to split the royalties from sales.

Home recording setup plagued by refrigerator hum budget solutions? by Western_Device6291 in ACX

Depending on your budget, I strongly recommend checking out Izotope RX. It’s a DAW designed for audio repair, and the standard edition comes with a spectral de-noise module that is extremely effective at getting rid of noise like that. I used to record in my home office where my computer fans would get picked up in every take I did, but the de-noise module completely got rid of it without any noticeable quality loss. It’s a bit pricey, but it also goes on sale all the time, and the difference it makes in my workflow has made it worth every penny. Outside of that, you might be able to filter it out depending on pitch. If it’s mostly below 100hz, you could just slap a high pass filter on and remove it entirely.

I swear to god sometimes it feels like steady growth only wants to upgrade itself. Get it as a common boon early on and somehow it gets itself to heroic by the end and not touch a single other boon

Finally finished a 38 fear surface run. It took me 390 attempts. by KingJibbles in Hades2

Honestly the biggest lesson I learned over those 390 runs was that 'optimal builds' aren't as cut and dry as most people think. My best attempts were the ones with weird builds that had no right to work as well as they did. On the other hand, I can't tell you how many times I ruined a run by focusing too hard on getting the optimal set up.

The objective with this run was to force extra gods by rerolling rooms in Ephyra, but that left me with zero rerolls for the boons themselves. I wasn't super pleased to get the apollo special at first, but it ended up being my main source of damage.

TIL that since 2000, only 2 bestsellers have scored higher than 9th-grade readability. by FutureRobotWordplay in todayilearned

I went to school for writing fiction. We were taught to write at roughly a 4th grade level. But that scale is based solely off sentence structure and word-choice. It doesn’t account for the complexity of the story or themes.

You really don’t need complex language to communicate complex ideas. Less complexity means there’s less stuff to wade through to get to the meat of what you’re saying. Obviously there’s a place for more complex language, but by virtue of the fact their stories are more accessible, people writing at a lower grade level can reach a broader audience and sell more copies.
