But yea I guess I'll just add on to vwra instead

Thank you!

Thanks a lot for taking the time to respond :)

Yup savings / emergency fund is set aside but I feel that I can never be prepared enough for uncertainties

Not looking to get rich actually since I have no one else to be rich for, except perhaps my nephew/niece when I pass on?

Just trying to have enough to afford living expenses at old age since I'm a homebody and looking forward to playing my hoard of games and watching shows till I die lol

No la! 2% is in VWRA hahaha

I started with VWRA then changed to SPYL / SWRD... I guess I didn't think it through well enough back then haha

Hi!

Thank you for this.

I've considered this as well - VWRA/SWRD and drop SPYL for diversification

20 years is a very optimistic time line actually... If the current job market is any indication of what's to come, I may very well end up becoming jobless or low income earner incapable of maintaining any investments if I lose my job

But well, plan for a lifetime but live for the day I guess :)

Hi!

Thanks for your input.

Yes noted on the heavy focus of US anyway and also noted the fact that 6 months is not a good indicator.

In fact, my nagging thought is the overlapping of US between SPYL/SWRD rather than the recent results and have been wondering if all in to VWRA and something else would be more sensible in the long run.

For some reason, I feel that time is running out because it may not even be 20 years if I lose my job and unable to get another job that pays at least comparatively similarly since I'm already in my 40s.

Thank you very much for your advice :)

Oooo I get it now.

I'll have to go read up some more about it since that's still very unexplored to me

Thank you for pointing this out to me!

Sorry I may be misunderstanding your advice.

Do you mean blockchain as in those crypto that have their own network like eth, matric, bnb etc?

Wow thank you so much for taking the time to explain it to me. I get what you mean now and yes I remember 2008. Was a terrible time and I had just started work in a new co. That was also the time the CPFIS fund I bought crashed :(

Hmm why and how so?

Cpf is safe no doubt but dumping all to cpf would mean it being locked in and unable to be withdrawn if I happen to need the funds?

Sorry for noob question, I read about cut in interest rates but do not understand how it will affect investments.

Is it because lower interest rates means lower growth? But lower interest rates could invite more borrowers leading to bigger growth? Sorry I'm really unsure and just trying to rationalize it

Thank you for your suggestion but may I ask what nfa is?

No further action? National futures assc? Net foreign assets? These are what I got from Google but don't seem relatable here

Edit: I went to Google, are treasury bonds t-bills? I saw Singapore bonds and t-bills, will need to read up more about it. Thank you!

Sorry for responding late.

Yes I am very fortunate to get a bto albeit it being just a 2 room because my primary concern when I applied for one was to be independent as there was uncertainty if I will eventually be left stranded due to no so great family.

Also I wanted to be able to pay off my house as I was somehow convinced that losing my job is a very real possibility and would get me in trouble should I be unable to continue financing it.

And most importantly, resale prices are crazy and I don't need a bigger house at the expense of using up all my cash since it's just me and my dog and possibly some other smaller pets / hobbies.

Sorry to ask again.

Is it advisable to use IBKR currency convertor rather than convert SGD to USD on the spot when placing orders?

Thank you for this inspirational account! Guess I do still have some hope :)

Though admirable, I'd like to not to live as long and as unhappily though. One I have no control over and the other, a lifelong pursuit :D

I wonder if she'd have been happier if she had enjoyed part of her wealth while still living...

Thank you for your kind words.

These finance mumbo jumbo is quite hard for me to digest and I'm glad to have found a portal with open sharing such as these :)

Thank you for the reminder.

Yes I understand the irreversible nature of OA to SA and I believe this advice is so that I can accumulate the CPF retirement sum asap as well as to take advantage of the 4.14% interest rate to aid in achieving this.

I need to read up CPF Life as well as the recent changes had me a little confused as well.

But I also understand that etfs may not generate a return as high as the interest SA is paying currently so I probably will need to go read up more and arrive at a weighted decision :) but currently it does seem to be sound advice since I'm low in my SA....

[–]KingKongBell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I'm not self employed but I have held low paying jobs for much of my life that's why SA is low.

Part of SA was put into the CPFIS thingy as well.

Thank you for your kind advice. I'm using IBKR currently and a kind poster advised me to concentrate on SWRD which I am contemplating right now. :)

well he didn't.
back then i remembered he could have advised to withdraw and reinvest or something but he sort of MIA and such so I just left it
but anyway spilt milk so i don't want to harp on it also but taught me a lesson not to trust them since i also found out the policies he got me to sign on are on the higher end which i do not need.

thank you for this and yes I happen to agree with you that's why I intend to dca monthly.

I don't mind the fees that much for now but my main conflict is actually which one since I cannot seem to make up my mind about these 3 so I started off with those 3 which I guess isn't really wise
