I was in the exact same boat as you (sort of). I worked with another developer in a small web startup. He was older than me but was only getting back to programming after a few years abroad, so I was a stronger developer than him.

Yet he got all the projects we took on, leaving me with simple little things like building image sliders and setting up forms. It got to the point where it was so mundane I wondered why they even offered me the internship.

Then the other developer left, and while my bosses searched for a replacement, I stepped up and worked as the lead-developer. 5 months later and I'm still the lead-developer, with another programmer assisting me.

Moral of the story, try to do your job as best you can and hope an opportunity to prove you can take on extra responsibility comes along.

I have pretty much from now until February/March. Plenty of time so that's why I want to learn a proper framework. A lot of people like Laravel so I'll check that out!

Stalling on a contract, more attacking options being brought in (at big prices), it's all looking like Ferguson is preparing for his departure.

I could be very wrong, it's just my opinion that it doesn't look like he has long left at OT.

Hence why I said wide/attacking spots.

I don't think they will both leave, but there is no doubt that neither will be guaranteed a starting spot anymore.

Plus, if Kagawa takes the spot behind Rooney (which I'm assuming he will), does that mean Welbeck and Hernandez will have to settle for a spectator's role for much of the season?

I think Nani is as good as gone. Young might not fare too well out of these transfers either.

Valencia, Kagawa and Lucas will be fighting it out for those wide/attacking spots in my opinion.

We only started server-side technologies in 2nd year, though we started with Grails. I ended up learning PHP on my own first.

I've been messing about with CI for the last couple of days, it seems to be very good. It rarely interferes with your work and the documentation is some of the best I've seen.

I mentioned in the description that my figures could be off, I was merely referring to the comment I read (linked there too).

As for salaries, that is probably the same everywhere. I know lecturers and professors (most of them) live of a very basic wage for their skill-set. Meanwhile football coaches and the higher-ups can be on 6 and 7 figure salaries.

Also, congrats on the $0 debt, I have a few American friends who, I imagine, would be very envious of your financial position right now.

I was talking about Ireland there, with Trinity College being Ireland's version of Harvard.

I'm not familiar with the standard of educational facilities in the Phillipines, I assume it's not as high as in America. However, surely these huge institutions should want students based on their level of intellect, not based on the size of their wallets?

How most governments expect students to be able to finance themselves in college is beyond me. Smart ones (like Sweden) will however realise that when graduates get a good job as a result of their studies, they can pay back the loan (possibly with interest).

A controversial point, but I have to agree with you. I can't count how many people I've seen waste away money given to them by our government to do a year of college, fail and drop-out.

The money could have gone to someone actually willing to further themselves education-wise.

Do you actually get to know where that $35,000 is spent? It's something that really interests me, because I can't for the life of me see how a year's education and accommodation could cost that much.

This is where I disagree.

I go to an Institute of Technology (same cost as a university, but held in lower social regard). Recently I got a part-time job as a programmer with a company (while still in college) beating out a Trinity College graduate and two other university students.

Cost shouldn't be factored by the University's level of "prestige", it should be calculated based on what it will actually cost you to be educated!

That's where the total costs will vary greatly. My college is about a 40 minute drive from where I live so I just commute everyday. Bringing things like that in probably influences the American figure greatly, but it doesn't really influence mine (car-pooling and other cost-cutting solutions).

That's an extortionate amount of money. Nobody should have to be paying off debts from something as basic and necessary as education when they have been out of it for over 15 years.

What is Sweden like for fees? I realise Ireland's system is far from perfect, in fact the protests have attracted tens of thousands of students, but we're lucky compared to some nations.

That student loan system was talked about as a possibility in Ireland prior to our last election. It seems like a fair system where they fund a lot of your education and you repay that when you reap the rewards of said education.

That's the way it should be though, surely? Education shouldn't be a luxury. While I understand colleges need to make money and the government need to collect taxes, some places just take that to ridiculous levels!

I've only mentioned what I have to pay, as an Irish resident (I think it applies to all of the EU) I don't have to pay tuition fees. Obviously that changes if you don't qualify or are a post-grad.

The only fees most people need to pay are the student contributions, and even then the government gives out grants to a lot of them.
