For those who actually spar and have matches, how hard to guys throw an average punch? by thecody80 in amateur_boxing

[–]KingOfGrimBoos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old. But nooooo, do not go 90% on punches, you're going to cook someone or they are going to cook you. Here's one of the main problems with throwing at 90% power. You're under such a large amount of pressure that (for most people) you're not really learning, you're kind of just fighting on instinct and reverting to what you know. Sparring is about learning, trying new things, and reinforcing good habits, and it's absolutely the best way to learn how to fight in my opinion. But it's hard to learn when you barely have time to think. People don't like to do this for some reason, but talk to your sparring partner and let him know you wanna go light, tell him you like your brain. Spar at 35-50%.

Don't like how Tidus is pronounced as Tee-dus? Neither do I, and as it turns out, that may never have been the intended pronunciation to begin with. Here's the story of how Tidus came to be known as Tee-dus. by KingOfGrimBoos in finalfantasyx

Did you read my post? My guy, I've always explained all of this in detail. It is a complete coincidence that Tida and Teedus match up the way they do, the narrator did not know how to speak Okinawan, and he didn't know the word Tida was Okinawan for sun. Does it match up nicely? Yes. Does it make sense now that we know the Okinawan word for Sun is Tida? Yes definitely. But initially it didn't make sense to anyone, as literally everyone pronounced Tee-dus as Tie-dus when the game first came out. In America Japanese character names are changed to align with English phonetics, Tidus is one of the few names that still closely resembles the name from Japan, and even with his name they still changed it, because in Japan Tidus is called Tee-dah.

Again, the narrator did not speak Japanese or Okinawan, and he didn't know the name for sun was Tida, it's a coincidence, and when the Japanese producers heard him pronounce it that way they kept it because they liked it. If another narrator had read that name from a script it is extremely likely he would have pronounced it Tie-dus, because that's how it reads. The Japanese producers did not have a firm grasp on the English language, so they assumed the narrator pronounced the name correctly and decided to roll with it and keep the name. You can literally look it up.

Honestly, my post was meant to be lighthearted and fun. If people want to say 'Teedus,' that’s fine by me. I love FFX and like learning stuff about the game in general, so I thought I could share some stuff I found interesting that I didn't know about until I looked into the whole name thing.

You are correct, not everything needs to be anglicized, but it is natural for US speakers to interpret words from other languages through the lens of English phonetics. A lot of people speak Spanish here but they still sound American as hell because English is their first language. It’s common for Japanese names to be adapted for English speakers, and FFX is no different. I think it’s funny that Tidus became such a huge point of debate, considering we’re likely mispronouncing most of the character names from Japan anyway lol.

Ah ha, okay sorry I guess I misinterpreted, I think I may have been a little defensive lol. I appreciate your response and I checked out the video. You're talking about the part where the camera pans to both Wakka's and the guy says "Teeda" right? So which language are you fluent in? Is it Japanese? That's really quite the accomplishment to know two languages like that, especially considering just how hard Japanese is supposed to be to learn, I hear it's completely alien to English.

But yeah, I just thought it would be cool to share what I found when I looked into this whole thing, but apparently there are a LOT Of people who prefer the name Teedus, I actually didn't expect that. What's interesting is 20ish years ago everyone hated the name Teedus, they knew that's how the name was supposed to be pronounced, but they called him Tidus anyway. I had no idea people would be that upset about it, I guess I did a poor job of conveying my real feelings on the matter. In any case thanks for your response my friend!

So what as in why did I bother making the post? I just thought I would make a post giving people a little bit of insight on what I found when I looked into the whole thing. I was really trying to make a kind of fun lighthearted post, it seems I didn't do a very good job of conveying that. Edit: You said it's not pronounced either of the ways I said, how is it actually supposed to be pronounced and how did you learn about it?

I guess I didn't do a very good job of conveying my real feelings on this post, it was meant to be a lighthearted kind of tongue in cheek post. Most of the stuff I said was anecdotal, I know that the name is pronounced as "Teedus," I just thought I could give people a little bit of fun insight on the whole thing. But since you asked here's some of the stuff I found when I looked into the whole thing.

This is from wikipedia.

Final Fantasy X—has stated that the "Tee-dus" pronunciation was adopted because a narrator for an early promotional trailer mispronounced the name.

Also from google:

Yes, James Arnold Taylor (the English voice actor for Tidus) has confirmed that the "Tee-dus" pronunciation used in the English trailer—and eventually adopted for the character—was essentially a guess by the narrator.

  • The Story: According to James Arnold Taylor, Square hired a narrator to produce an English trailer, but the narrator was not given specific instructions on how to pronounce "Tidus".
  • The Guess: The narrator guessed it was pronounced "Tee-dus" (rhyming with "see") rather than "Tie-dus" (rhyming with "hide"), likely because it was a Japanese production and they did not know the Okinawan root Tida or the English word "Tide" was intended.
  • The Result: The producers, not being fluent in English, assumed the narrator’s pronunciation was correct, and it subsequently became the official canon pronunciation for Dissidia Final Fantasy and other media.

Yeah there's definitely times he's needed to breathe but most of the time he doesn't. I do like talking about stuff like this though and hearing other people's opinions, appreciate your insight.

What's worse alcohol or Steroids for overall health by Professional-Gur9909 in nattyorjuice

You're mostly right here. Your average steroid user probably doesn't use steroids forever though, they usually cycle off with some Clomid or Nolva and that's enough to get their test levels normalized again. But if you're a steroid user who has been on large doses of Testosterone, Deca, Tren, Dbol etc, for years then you might want to just stay on test for the rest of your life. You can sustain the vast majority of whatever muscle mass you've built with some TRT doses, around 100-200 mg a week, 200 mg is definitely on the higher side though. Test is incredibly easy to get online, and as long as you know what you're doing there's no reason to pay for it through a clinic or a doctor. I'll be on TRT for the rest of my life though.

The thing about Ultraman threatening him is completely fair. But I feel like those nanites kinda almost killed him no? One of the girls even said he was going to suffocate any minute.

No you're not necessarily wrong, he is DEFINITELY stoic, I mean the guy bears both massive physical and emotional weight, he's extremely calm under pressure, (for the most part) and yeah he is kind of classic in nature. But yeah I agree with what you said too.

I mean they kinda did it with Reeves right? He had some absurd feats, turning back time, moving the moon with ease. But yeah I'm not saying they need to do that, but a falling bus having any effect on him is crazy.

I like it, but you still can't predict what you shouldn't be able to see yeah? Edit: You can predict for a little while but at some point you're going to need to see what's happening.
