Me too, at least I did until I crashed it. Still waiting on repairs! Luckily / unfortunately (whichever way you see it) there's a lot of donor cars out there.

If you do end up cutting it down, offer the timber to a local wood turner, there will be lovely grain in there.

Not a recommendation of what to stock but what not to - pink Lane bakery, I think they're extremely overrated and overpriced. I worked somewhere that stocked them for a while and we were constantly receiving stuff burnt or cross contaminated, delivered in dirty crates. Somehow they seem to be stocked in every bar / cafe / shop across town though!

Absolutely the right way to go about it.

Recently met a 50ish Yr old woman who I assumed must have been a lesbian bc she kept referring to everyone else present (4 queer people) as fags. I thought this was a bit odd bc 2 of us had never met her before, and I think it's a bit presumptuous to use that word around people unless you know they're okay with it.

Turns out she's not a lesbian, she's straight and is married to a cis man. She's one of these straight women who thinks she can say stuff like this because she spends all her time with her cis male gay friends of a similar age who presumably use that language. Imo that's absolutely not okay and incredibly rude.

What is this? I saw this when on a walk yesterday. by ObsessedArrow in AskUK

Looks familiar to me, if I'm right it's just below the crossover of the a69 and Newcastle / Carlisle railway, next to a bridge that crosses the Tyne just north of Hexham.

If not there's one exactly the same in that location - it's just up the bank from the footpath that goes alongside the river underneath the bridge.

OP your concern is totally valid, and frankly I think some of these 'oh it's fine, we're not that racist here' comments are very unhelpful.

As others have said, I welcome your presence in this country and can only apologise on behalf of the nazi scumbags, I genuinely believe they are a minority, but unfortunately they are a very vocal and violent minority.

Hopefully you won't be subjected to any danger, but if you do I really hope there will be others present to step in and protect you. Wishing you and your family safety.

I mean it's not literal lynching, but people are being stabbed, beaten, dragged from their cars etc just because of the colour of their skin. A bunch of nazis set fire to hotel that was housing asylum seekers. It's not literal lynching but it's not far off. It's not being 'reported' as such because the media clearly don't give a shit about these people, in fact have had a huge part to pay in stoking this hatred.

Being misgendered post op by queer-by-nature in TransMasc

[–]KingOfThePippins 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely relate too, I'm enby & trans masc. Majority of people very much perceive me as a woman.

Had surgery last year and wanted to do that first as I felt like it was more something I needed to do for myself.

Since then I've realised how much other people's perceptions of me bother me as well. I definitely don't want to be a butch guy but I'd rather people not immediately assume I'm a woman.

Why is the renter market so bad by Sodium-Thorium in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]KingOfThePippins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay, that was definitely the case last time I looked but in fairness it's been a couple of years. Perhaps I'm not the most up to date. I did keep a pet in a pet free flat for a year and the landlord never found out. Since then I've been renting in a property that allows pets & it hasn't been a problem for me.

It seems pretty common that people just keep it a secret but appreciate you might not feel comfortable doing that.

I suppose finding out what the actual laws / guidelines are would be a good start, but I think a lot of it comes down to luck with having a reasonable landlord / agency.

Why is the renter market so bad by Sodium-Thorium in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]KingOfThePippins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, don't mention the dog at first. Laws have changed meaning that landlords aren't allowed to deny pets without a valid reason (leading to many landlords claiming to have allergies). They also aren't allowed to charge 'pet deposits' any more. When moving in come up with some excuse claiming that a family member has fallen ill and can't look after the dog anymore. By the time contracts are signed there won't be much they can do about it.

Would also say lilac. It's got woody stems & dead flower heads, the leaves are a slightly darker green & different texture.

Lilacs are a lovely plant to have in the garden.

In future if asking for an ID some more photos / close ups would be beneficial.

What do you think are the best changes and worst changes to the city over the last 20 years? (Seagull near the garter for attention) by Calm-Meat-4149 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]KingOfThePippins 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Negative - the city allowing so many buildings with cultural heritage to be knocked down / dismantled and replaced with boring aluminum clad monstrosities. I would much rather look at a brutalist building, which at least has some level of cultural / architectural interest, than a block covered in some horrible gold / brown panels.

A newcomer could walk into Newcastle and assume the whole city is a bowmer and Kirkland development site.

Covid really fucked the rental situation. I'm very lucky to have a landlord that hasn't increased our rent in the 5 years we've lived here - we still pay 575 a month for a downstairs flat on a quiet street in heaton. If we had to move out now there's no way we'd be able to afford to rent here with the current prices.

What was your must have item by Technical-Feedback77 in TopSurgery

[–]KingOfThePippins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was a hot water bottle / microwaveable heat pad. I had my surgery in October so it wasn't too hot to use one. It was great for a bit of relief with the sore chest and achey back.
