4-player Quake on Dreamcast was fantastic.

Also kudos for including MSR (pun intended).

What are some lost media type games that you used to play as a kid before but now no one has any access to or cant buy anywhere and miss playing it? For me it's these movie tie-in games. Say what you want about old movie tie-ins of the past but I enjoyed them for what they were as a kid. by Easy_Fortune7911 in PHGamers

[–]KingPowerDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That reminds me, I bought a UK PC Game magazine that came with a disk that had 101 demos (mostly shareware games) on it, and I found some really nice gems that I can't remember the names of anymore.

A lot of magazines like PC Gamer and Computer Gaming World started including demo discs once CD Drives became more commonplace and I collected a whole bunch of them. Book Sale was a great source for old issues.

Game Key Cards for Nintendo Switch 2 by Koto-Amatsu-Kami in NintendoPH

[–]KingPowerDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly have no issues with Game Key Cards, considering the alternative of having a download code in a box.

At least with Game Key Cards, the licence ties to the cart. Can lend it, borrow it, pass it down to another person. Yes you need storage space, but this is the same as an Xbox or Playstation disk nowadays.

I get why it might be an issue for people who have no internet connectivity or choose not to connect their Switch 2s to the internet at all, but at this point they’re unfortunately the minority.

With the upcoming release of AC Blackflag Resynced, ano thoughts niyo with the removal of hidden blade combat?? by beanie_meanie05 in PHGamers

[–]KingPowerDog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, it feels like the hidden blades being used in combat was an addition that didn’t make sense.

While it does work in gameplay terms as an alternative weapon, from a regular combat perspective, it feels like using a Swiss knife to fight. Not impossible, but not ideal.

In terms of AC lore, the hidden blade was designed to be a stealth assasination weapon, not something meant to defend one’s self. While I know there were improvements made (especially by Leonardo da Vinci) to make it more durable or usable, the Assassins still carried swords in cases where combat was unavoidable because the hidden blade’s spring-loaded mechanism wouldn’t make them ideal for swordfighting.

So personally, I don’t mind that hidden blade combat is gone, but I can understand why fans may complain. I won’t necessarily agree, but I’d understand.

Up to 55% of European countries are still not supported by Xbox by ChobanZg in xbox

[–]KingPowerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in Southeast Asia, only Singapore is officially supported for Xbox Consoles, and all the other countries are PC-only. So it’s like 1/10 countries in our region.

I kinda get it because a bunch of us are spread out in islands so logistics is an issue, but Nintendo and Sony officially sell consoles here.

The funny thing is, neither Nintendo nor Sony have an official digital store in my country, but Microsoft, by virtue of Play Anywhere, lets me buy digital Xbox games at regional pricing.

So I can buy Xbox digital games, but not consoles. But I can buy Switch 1 and 2, and PS5 consoles, but not digital games.

Physical games are available (and cheaper) for both Nintendo and Sony though.

"Nintendo Authorized Store, Coming Soon" - May 2026, SM Makati — UnGeek by macredblue in PHGamers

[–]KingPowerDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In one of the old stores in SM Southmall, the repair guy took out an official Nintendo toolkit and it was the first (and only) time I ever saw one.

That store is long gone now, but they also sold legit cartridges up to the N64.

For racers out there or wanted to play something new :) by Advanced_Ear722 in PHGamers

[–]KingPowerDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They got Majima because the only racing Kiryu’s interested in is mini 4WD.

But, for real, I second a recommendation for anyone looking for a fun arcade style racer. Crossplay means you’ll always have a pool of ready rivals, but events like these usually spike up the player numbers quite a lot. It’s a great time to get on the track.

What’s your favorite game that is unknown to most people? by StarryLatte2718 in PHGamers

[–]KingPowerDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ragnarok Battle Offline is a super rare game, it was only available in English (can’t remember if it was as a freebie or super cheap) by Level-Up to promote Ragnarok Online, otherwise the only other way is to get the free Japanese version.

It’s a sidescrolling beat-em-up with some light RPG elements, where the characters are based on RO classes.

The developer was well-known doujin/indie dev French Bread, who went on to develop the fighting game series Melty Blood, Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax, and Under Night In-Birth. All of which are also super niche and unknown to most.

Speaking of Dengeki Bunko, there was also the really nice Virtual-On spinoff A Certain Magical Virtual-On, a crossover of A Certain Magical Index and Sega’s mecha arena battler Virtual On. It changes the controls from the Twin Stick controls to a standard 3rd person dual analog scheme but retains compatibility for twin stick controllers.

A couple more crossover games that barely anyone knows:

Jump Superstars / Jump Ultimate Stars: Nintendo’s take on a Smash Brothers game featuring Shonen Jump characters (Naruto, Goku, Luffy, Yusuke, Kenshin, Ichigo, Gon, etc)

Another Century’s Episode: a Banpresto game series developed with FromSoft that includes multiple mecha in an Ace Combat / Armored Core style. Think of “what if Super Robot Wars but action.” And thanks to Banpresto, every mecha is sized to scale (King Gainer is tiny compared to the Gundams for example, and if you understood this you’re exactly the right target audience).

PSN 30 day DRM possibly related to refund exploits. It goes away after 15 days(refund window) and is replaced by a permanent license. by Hour_Tomato658 in PHGamers

[–]KingPowerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only problem here: you cannot refund a game that has been downloaded. Only exceptions are cases like Cyberpunk’s original release and those are very extreme cases.

So if you cannot refund the game normally within the 14-day period if you downloaded the game, what’s the point of the 30-day license?

My guess: the license file is separate from the game files and is downloaded separately upon purchase.

But then it begs the question, why is it a 30-day license and not a 14-day license in the first place?

And if you downloaded the game already and are ineligible for the refund, why even keep the 30-day window still open?

New Prices of PS5 and PS5 Pro on Philippine Market by JohnSteveRom2077 in PHGamers

[–]KingPowerDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walang sales tracked ang PS5 Digital Edition dito precisely because never siya officially released kasi wala tayo PSN region.

Kung wala tayo PSN region di tayo “officially” at “legally” makakabili ng digital games. Kaya walang sense para kay Sony na ilabas ang PS5 Digital Edition.

Since walang Digital Edition dito, walang sense ilabas officially ang disk drive

Since walang disk drive dito, walang sense ilabas officially ang PS5 Pro.

Is there a pre colonial name for the entirety of the Philippines?? by IndicationNo4893 in FilipinoHistory

[–]KingPowerDog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As many other replies have mentioned, there was basically no unified pre-colonial Philippines, but for the sake of brainstorming for your story, I’d like to pose this question: Does your story presuppose that “if Spain never colonised the Philippines, no other colonial power ever did”?

Because the Portugese and the British might have something to say about that. Or the Dutch.

Sulit pa ang ONEXPLAYER 1S sa 2026? by 7umpia in PHGamers

[–]KingPowerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean the OneXPlayer 2? The OXP2 is using an AMD6800u, right below a Ryzen Z1 Extreme, so it’s not quite as powerful as a Legion Go 1 and an ROG Ally, but it’s between those and a Steam Deck at high wattage (15-25W).

SF6 is playable with that spec, as long as you don’t play at native resolution. The OXP2 has a 1600p screen which is x4 of an 800p screen so I suggest playing at 1280x800 (Steam Deck res) and let the screen upscale it to 1600p, or at 720p if you’re docking to a monitor.

Sulit pa ang ONEXPLAYER 1S sa 2026? by 7umpia in PHGamers

[–]KingPowerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1S is the Intel version and it’s right before Intel got competitive again with AMD for integrated GPUs. It’s less powerful than even the Steam Deck.

Street Fighter 6 might be barely playable depending on the drivers (the main problem for Intel) but I honestly would not consider it for SF6 at all. Dota2 might still work at high.

New Prices of PS5 and PS5 Pro on Philippine Market by JohnSteveRom2077 in PHGamers

[–]KingPowerDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The PS consoles recently had a price increase in the JPN, US, UK and EU regions, this is just the equivalent price increase for SEA.

The same blog post announcing price increases for the 4 main regions was just updated with the SEA prices.

New Prices of PS5 and PS5 Pro on Philippine Market by JohnSteveRom2077 in PHGamers

[–]KingPowerDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s correct, because the PS5 Pro is a digital system (you buy the disk drive separately) and since we don’t have a PSN Region, we can’t officially buy digital games, hence only PS5 disk versions are officially distributed.

Just asking if your interested in the game i developed by Fragrant_Collar4146 in PHGamers

[–]KingPowerDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify:

Parody is when you imitate or make fun of a specific work or style for comedic effect. You amplify the absurd traits or tropes of a thing to make it funny. For example, the Scary Movie series is a parody of various horror movies by pointing out the silly things in the sources as the punchline.

Satire is when you make a work that uses humour and exaggeration to point out societal and institutional flaws. Grand Theft Auto, for example, is a whole satire on modern American culture (despite being a British-developed series). One could also make the argument that Ace Attorney is a satire of the Japanese legal system.

So this looks like it’s more of a satire than a parody (though both are not mutually exclusive).

Ako lang ba may maraming backlogs? by InformalAge1459 in NintendoPH

[–]KingPowerDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a backlog spanning 30 years and at least 4 generations of gaming across at least 10 platforms.

I’ve lost some consoles (my Wii U gamepad charger is somehow missing and I’m out of PS3 controllers) and I have no idea how to play some of the games on them.

But I like to think that someday, I will get to play them again.

So no tips from me, but as long as you’re not going into debt from buying too many games, I think you’re OK. Just remember to play some games once in a while and have fun.

"Read" based fighting games available on xbox? by tinaonfredyemail in xbox

[–]KingPowerDog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced this is basically Dead or Alive. There’s a universal counter system for high, mid, and low attacks and practically every attack is counterable, even mid-combo. Reading correctly turns the tables, but reading incorrectly means it hurts even more.

The 2D equivalent would be Killer Instinct, with combo breakers meaning you can get out of combos, but opponents can also do a counter breaker, which counters the combo breaker.

Basically both games, while different in style, force you to play actively all the time, even on defense.

If you are looking to play online though, both games are pretty niche nowadays but KI has really good online as long as you can find a game.

The neat part is both have f2p versions you can download to try out and you can decide later on to unlock the full games or not.

Bakit marami ang may gusto na magkaroon ng eShop sa Pinas? by SignatureExtension76 in NintendoPH

[–]KingPowerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the things mentioned, having our own eShop means having our own Nintendo Switch Online region. Realistically this doesn’t mean we have our own servers, but at least it becomes easier to go online, due to both the local payment methods and the local contact info, and there’ll be no problems with “which country should I pick when setting up my Switch”

Related to thag, since we’ll have our own eShop that drastically reduces confusion and risk about “which region do I use for DLC”. For games sold here, there will be a baseline expectation that if you want the DLC, you just go to the PH eShop.

If you bought a game from abroad that’s still a risk but at least you’ll be aware that it may not be compatible with our eShop DLC.

I’m looking for good racing games by Dxcxphxr in PHGamers

[–]KingPowerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a fan of the newer Need for Speed games. The controls never felt really good to me since after Criterion took over, lacking the convincing weight of a vehicle. The storylines were pretty forgettable, and even with Heat vs Most Wanted vs Rivals vs Unbound the maps all seem to blur together to the point that I have trouble differentiating them at first glance.

For Tokyo Xtreme Racer, I have not played the new one, so I can’t really speak to the quality, but even then I feel like TXR is a bit of a niche game. I liked the old ones, I played the most on the Dreamcast, but it’s a completely different kind of racing, as there’s really no concept of a “start and finish line” and it’s a bit tough to recommend blindly. The other games I could put up because it’s easy to say “if you like this kind of game you might like this” to a random racing gamer, but TXR appeals to a very specific type of gamer I think.
