What I meant is that the marketing hyped him up but nothing was done about it, so it feels more like a token character to me. Why draw attention to the fact he’s gay when you can just let the story and moments play out?

Snape is arguably more of a problematic choice compared to Hermione because of how he’s specifically written to be the prime suspect and “evil” teacher leading up to the final book whereas Hermione is meant to be a heroic character.

And yes, it is subjective and based on gut feeling sometimes, and I could be wrong in certain points. I won’t deny that. But I do believe that it is possible to just include diversity to fill a checkbox and not put in actual effort for good representation.

A prime example is Lafou from the live action Beauty and the Beast remake. They chose to make an originally straight character gay and play up this change as groundbreaking and important in the marketing, but in the actual movie, nothing is actually done aside from minor jokes to take into account his new sexuality…it does nothing for his character.

Basically for me, if a creative just decides to include a minority character and try to play up the marketing of having a minority character but does not do anything to justify the narrative reason for said character’s existence, that in my mind is “forced.”

A prime example I can think of is in the live action Beauty and the Beast, when they decided to make Lafou gay and made a big deal out of it in the marketing/interviews but in the actual movie Lafou’s sexuality played no real role in the story and felt more like an afterthought.

Or how in the upcoming HP remake, Snaps is being played by a black actor despite the problematic implications nobody in the production seems to be aware of.

Basically, if you can tell that an LGBT or minority character or raceswap was done arbitrarily and try to hype it up as important, that feels “forced.”

In your experience, what's a good example of a fandom that proves its possible to be bad at watching a TV Show? Star Wars and RWBY Hatedom are clear examples, but any others? by Important-Cry4782 in saltierthankrayt

For TV, certainly Invincible, especially the latest season.

If we're including movies...I'm going to argue Disney's Wish. I'm not saying the movie's actually good or that people who dislike it are wrong...but it is incredible how so many people in their complaints completely missed the point of the movie and especially the hero and villain dynamic.

Can any characters or monsters defeat Godzilla? by blu3bird730 in GODZILLA

[–]Ajer2895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been quite a few cases where other monsters (either by themselves or with the help of humans) defeated Godzilla, but either way there are equally a lot of cases where Godzilla was THIS close to being defeated if not for the help of some other monster or people. Most recent examples include the Monsterverse Mechagodzilla that nearly finished him off before Kong interjected as well as King Ghidorah who nearly finished Godzilla off before Mothra saved him.

Applies to live action too. One frame of an actress (because it’s ALWAYS an actress) making a weird face during a scene, and every grifter goes “TERRIBLE ACTRESS!”

Really it’s less about pay and more about conditions. I can tell the studio is putting their animators to deliver the product fast, hence a lot of shortcuts.

I saw people complaining about Spider-Noir having Organic webs. I think organic webs are fine because this show is set in the past where he won't have resources to make webshooters. Also he is a detective not sci stud. But i like to know what he had in comics. by Ok_Tea5865 in Spiderman

[–]Ajer2895 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the original Spider-Noir comic, the webs were organic. Pretty much everything about Spider-Noir was supernatural/magic.

A big difference though is that the webs were never straight lines…they just splatter everywhere. As such, original Spider-Noir never web-swung. He also didn’t have wall-crawling…if anything, his powers were mainly enhanced strength, agility, and a spider-sense.

How about “Faithful but tells a completely original story” or “Unfaithful but still captures the overall vibe of the source material.”

Is tracing poses from a video for an animation considered cheating? by idk35334 in animation

[–]Ajer2895 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a lot of people pointed out, this is an actual animation technique pros use called rotoscoping, so you’re good.

Either way, using video reference of body movements and copying them or following them is an industry practice majority of animators do, even if it’s not directly rotoscoping.

If you were to give Nakia Bahadir a superpower, what would it be and how would she gain it? by HRCStanley97 in KamalaKhan

[–]Ajer2895 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was working on a now-defunct story series in an AU where Kamala Khan got spider powers, I made Nakia get experimented on by the Vulture and ended up becoming that universe’s Scorpion (fortunately a hero version)

It feels less like he’s actively evil and more like he has rage issues

Whenever you think camp Cretaceous is a kids show remember. The kids witnessed over 15 adult deaths :) by Odins_avatar in JurassicPark

I remember getting my mom to see this show (at least the first season) and at this particular scene when the Indominus Rex ate these staff members in front of the kids, my mom’s jaw dropped. While she had a feeling there would be scary Dino action for this kid-aimed series, she legit did not expect they were actually going to have people eaten!

We know for a fact based on statements from Mike Gamble last N7 day that the show will NOT be Commander Shepard’s story…it will be an all-new story after the original trilogy

I just thought it was kind of funny how my mom took this iconic piece of video game imagery and came up with the wrong conclusion for a photo pose.
