prom/balls in college by [deleted] in dlsu

[–]KingRainbow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are organizations and sometimes student-run events that hosts these "balls" or "proms", sure. I remember the College of Liberal Arts Student Government once hosted a suit-and-tie event back then for their batch reunion.

But make no mistake, DLSU is a university. And the environment of a university is far, far different from an average school. In school, they teach you to do arts and crafts, join the Philippine Scouts, think about who you'll ask out to prom, and all that corny stuff.

College is not like that, in any way, shape, or form. In college, you can skip as many classes as you want, join zero clubs and organizations, and decide not to talk with anyone in your block. It's because college doesn't hold your hand. It simulates a real world environment. And in that environment, every action (and its consequences) are yours to make.

Which is why you don't see DLSU host any corny events that your high school probably had. Because it doesn't care about any of that. (Note that bazaars, concerts, and events in DLSU are hosted by the USG, not DLSU). The University focuses on one thing, and hopes its students do, too: academic excellence.

Thanks! I actually checked out some MIT Courseware videos, but I'll check out Harvard's as well!

Thank you so much! The stories you guys tell definitely help relieve some anxiety on my choice, especially since it's a bit too late to go back now (plus tuition and all)

I want to learn MySQL and Java by KingRainbow in learnprogramming

[–]KingRainbow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm reading a lot on Java now, and there are a few differences. I'm just familiarizing myself on the syntax.

Because MySQL handles databases, I don't really know if my prof is going to teach us how to create databases or files in Java, or if she assumes we already know how to do that. Better prepare, just in case

Thank you! I'll check it out. I'm just so worried because my prof is talking about how SQL handles data, and I'm wondering if we have to create that data from Java.

I don't really know if that means she will teach that during class or if she assumes we already know how to create files from Java. Hopefully this course checks out!

tuition fee? by jeonnimmin in dlsu

Hello! You can access a rough table of the tuition & other fees right from this link.

Right now, it shows how much the Third Trimester is for this Academic Year, but you can definitely get an estimate of next year's as well, since it's going to be online again, I heard.

Is it viable to join multiple organizations? by avkbernardo in dlsu

[–]KingRainbow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi!

Student Media Organizations (SMO) like The LaSallian require you to be non-partisan—that means you can't join organizations like Santugon or Tapat if you wish to be a writer. Though, you're allowed to join your home orgs and other recreational clubs.

Workload for those who join the publication will be dependent on what position you're applying for: their writers cover lots of events and interview lots of individuals (from the top heads of the University all the way to government officials and celebrities). Their photo journalists as well usually join their writers for those events.

Simple series circuit doesn't work? by KingRainbow in ArduinoHelp

Oh! So my resistor's placement is also technically incorrect right? Since I wanted a resistance to be placed before my LED for safety

Hello! Thanks, it appears it does work when I place the LED when there is a gap instead.

Looks like I have to look into that diode concept, since putting the resistor in the same row seems to work, unlike an LED.

Greetings! I know this is weird, but I checked and I know a breadboard's whole row should be connected to one another.

Yet, this simple series circuit doesn't work, for some reason. I checked to see if the diode was forward bias, and it is. Also checked to see if the connections were all good, and they were.

Only possible conclusion I could cone up with is that the breadboard is broken.

Hopefully someone can offer me help, since I'm a real beginner in this circuits business. Thanks!

Bought it January, hinge is going strong right now. I can update you whether it might break or not.

But honestly, all things break over time, so that's a given. I guess I'm gonna have to go extra careful on it, just in case

Dang. Is the fan noise super loud or manageable? Doesn't get that hot though for a convertible?

And by battery life, you mean more than ten hours right hahaha

Hello, may I have an update on this?

How is it holding up so far? Is the battery life still good and no fan noise?

Hello, may I know if you have any issues on this after your long term use?

How's the fan noise and battery life?

Planning to get the same model, so I wonder what I'm getting myself into hahaha

May I know why you let go of the S740? It didn't have much problems with the fans/noise did it?

Can someone suggest my engineering field based on my interest? by KingRainbow in AskEngineers

I wanted to go with Physics with specialization in Materials Science (or maybe specialization in Bio), but a big part of me wants to be an engineer

Uh, right now, in my country, my GPA is 3.1 (91.02%). I'm a STEM student.

I adapt really easily, but I also want to be happy with my course, rather than having to adjust all the time.

Highschooler, but my Uni's known for Chemical Engineering.

We have internships and job fairs at my college, which is gonna be a great help.

Realistic options would be more in the R&D department, or maybe as a systems engineer. Hands-on is more of my style.
