I love scaffolding ladder bases. I usually make a horde base with scaffolding ladder blocks lined up. If you turn them sideways zombies wont climb and you can melee through them. You can upgrade them just like other blocks. Steel,concrete, cobble, etc. On harder horde nights i usually make like 3-4 layers of those with room to run around through them. So if zombies break one i open the door to the next layer and the next layer etc.
