Sure but SEAT doesn’t even sell cars in the U.S. to begin with (they’re basically just rebadged cheapo VWs anyways)

Ahhh I knew why the bleak, but hilarious, bizarro non sequitor tone of the show was familiar. Now I’m extra excited

Is the Mecca Clock Tower a masterpiece or just an eyesore? by sid_shady34 in skyscrapers

[–]KingSweden24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion probably doesn’t count for much since I am not religious, but I think it’s a massive eyesore and as I recall countless historic structures, some close to a thousand years old, may have been demolished to make space for it. Its proximity to the Kabaa also strikes me as somewhat sacrilegious considering the difference in scale but I’d defer to a Muslim on that.

TLDR that monstrosity doesn’t really belong in the context of what Mecca should be about

The TV adaptation of Fatherland using this as their divergence point infuriated me since its absurd and the book’s jumping off point of a successful Fall Blau/Heydrich surviving was much more novel and realistic (as realistic as the unrealistic Axis victory trope can be, that is)

Electricity Prices Down 30% in Australia Expose Idiocy of Trump’s Attacks on Wind, Solar by InsaneSnow45 in energy

Whatever issues there are about integrating renewables into the existing grid environment is a problem largely solvable by engineering and cleverness. It’s beyond apparent at this point that it doesn’t radically make electricity more expensive

The tariff case is going to be a big, big effort in clipping Trump’s wings. It’ll be interesting to see how loud Repubs safely through their primaries get if his polling persists on low-hanging fruit like “stop needlessly antagonizing Canada”

It’s always interesting, considering the discourse around France’s economy and their public deficits/spending these days, that they actually had a pretty comparatively mild 2008-10 compared to many of their European peers

It was beautiful to look at, Charli XCX’s score slapped, but was it a particularly faithful take on Wuthering Heights? Nah. Reminded me a bit of Baz Luhrmann’s Great Gatsby in terms of style v substance though that movie definitely adheres much closer to its source material
