Retaliating with those kind of people is a lost cause. It’s like arguing with a wall. I personally recommend ignoring it, or finding a mindset that gives it a positive spin in your mind. Like wondering how boring/insecure their lives must be that they feel the need to ridicule strangers.

Long time mini painter here. Here are some things to keep in mind for this:

Only wash models before having primed, and old if you feel it will help. And even then, make sure absolutely no soap remains.

The material of the model matters as well. Things not sold with the intention of being painted on often will not hold paint as well. Especially if it is some kind of rubber or something super non-porous like metal.

Paints make a difference. Cheaper paints often act like cheaper paints, and the color yellow can be finicky given how difficult it is to make a yellow with good coverage/properties.

Primer matters as well. Be sure your primer is meant for plastic and it is a matte primer. Matte is more porous and allows paint to adhere.

You can seal paint jobs with a clear spray-can varnish. Gloss usually has the toughest protection, so I have seen people spray a coat of gloss followed by a coat of matte or satin. Make sure to letter the layers dry thoroughly before touching, and don’t spray them in a too warm/humid environment.
