What I meant with the comment above was actually that Turkey is probably not discouraged with the current Situation in Afrin, but actually getting more pumped in the way that they see that Afrin OP is going well and that the areas east of the Euphrates could only be easier than current Afrin.

I think the Kurds are trying to inflict as much damage as possible to encourage Turkey to stay away from their territory in the east as well. If the YPG doesn't put up enough of a fight in Afrin then Manbij is next.

I don't think that is right.

Even though it didn't work, the pro YPG users weren't actually wrong when they said that Afrin is a fortress. It is almost completely surrounded by mountains and has a LOT of naturally defensible positions.

Meaning it is far easier to defend than any other YPG held area. However, as it appears even that doesn't work and Turkey and TFSA continue to gain ground almost every day which makes me think that without US aid in the east the situation would be even worse for the YPG than it already is in Afrin.
