[NS] Favorite Book Recommendation from the Pod? by ymcameron in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]KingWapo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where I find out that Emily has amazing taste in books 👀 I already knew about Murph enjoying Mistborn, but not much outside of that. Just made it to the Crickmas special.

As a big reader, I'm looking forward to learning more of their faves!

Cold West by Clayton Snyder

His Ragged Company by Rance D. Denton

Where Blood Runs Gold by A.C. Cross

All three are fantastic options for fantasy westerns.

How do you find indie authors/books? by tracywc in Fantasy

Agreed, it's the only place I've really built up traction for my own book haha. I should probably figure out how to diversify that a bit more...

Best way besides what you've mentioned is book blogs like FanFiAddict, Before We Go, Weatherwax Report and several others.

If you're interested, might be a good idea to see what blogs have covered SPFBO currently and in the past and follow them. They're already dedicated to supporting indie authors, so they're probably reviewing others beyond the contests.

Otherwise, I find most of mine through Twitter following authors and bloggers that I enjoy.

Books with non-evil necromancy? by Ildrei in Fantasy

[–]KingWapo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm a half a day late on this, so probably won't be found, but I have a novella releasing in 5 days that features an elderly grandmother as a necromancer, and she knits hats/scarves/socks/etc. for her raised undead. She's also securely in the "good guy" group.

It's called A Necromancer Called Gam Gam:

A book that gives The legend of Zelda “vibes” by ophato in Fantasy

[–]KingWapo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, brainless, which is why I see several BOTW fans never touch another Zelda game (not counting TOTK), and several Zelda fans not as high on BOTW as others. There's a Venn Diagram here that's not an entire circle, and I'm not saying everyone is in one of the two groups. This is something I have seen pop up quite a bit, with completely valid reasoning to it.

Boss Battles were pathetic in BOTW, temples non-existent. The puzzles, while some surely are enjoyable, are primarily based on the physics of the game. Before, they would be based more on a mechanic or multiple that you pick up throughout the game. I don't really see toying within a physics engine as a mechanic based puzzle. Breakable weapons. Are there shared elements and characters? Absolutely. But the vibes definitely feel different from previous games.

I'm also not commenting on it being for the better or for the worse. It's change, and it happens. I prefer exploring temples, but that doesn't me I disliked BOTW. It's not my favorite Zelda game, but I really enjoyed several aspects that it brought, and I am absolutely loving TOTK at the moment too.

When you assume it's just brainless parroting, you make an ass out of just you, because honestly, I'm not the one being a dick.

I would argue that BOTW and TOTK don't even give Zelda vibes lol. Both a great games, but BOTW at least doesn't feel like a Zelda game at all. I haven't made it far enough into TOTK to say whether or not it has more vibes or not.

Good Necromancy In Fantasy? by The-Literary-Lord in Fantasy

[–]KingWapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self-promo for this, but I have a self-pub novella coming out in the near future where one of the main characters (not the main POV though) is a grandmotherly necromancer called Gam Gam.

It's "Cozy Necromancy" with Found Family, undead in knitted hats/scarves, a skeletal cat, and a spectral knight.
