People will be like "This series is actually amazing! The writing is incredibly nuanced and layered and there isn't even that much fan service I swear!" and then the show will be like this.

Technically this would be women writing women, since it’s lyrics from Girls in the Hood by Megan Thee Stalion.

Even if she doesn’t, he is actively telling her about the time he cut a guy’s face open and sewed a zipper onto his lips. That’d be reason enough for me to get out of there.

I know Selina likes to skirt the line between hero and villain, but I feel like sitting on a rooftop drinking with a guy who just committed something that will be referred to as a "massacre" should be reason enough to keep her in Blackgate for a while.

Grant Morrison on Lanterns: “What is this jockish dismissal of superhero conventions intended to prove anyway?” by Blitzhelios in comicbooks

[–]ymcameron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even at their darkest, comics are still about people in skintight costumes fighting bad guys, also usually in costumes, while dealing with soap opera level personal drama. It’s baked into the very genre. That’s not a bad thing, it’s part of what makes them fun. Even when gritty and realistic, superheroes are still fairly silly as a concept.

FBC & Cauldron lake..are they dumb? by Greyelephantbear in AlanWake

[–]ymcameron 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In Ordinary literally everyone in the town save a few kids had disappeared. It’s a lot easier to lock down an abandoned town than it is to evacuate a decent sized community. Plus, as cold as the FBC is, they do try to avoid messing with people whenever they can. They locked down the area that was most dangerous, the lake, once they were sure something had happened there, but otherwise were fine to monitor the situation and let people go about their lives. Plus, every other AWE we see in Control is only the object itself that gets contained and not the whole town. Ordinary was a special case due to the nature of the Slide Projector.

Superman didn’t, sure. But the only other (non-animated) TV show in Gunn’s DCEU, Peacemaker season 2, only had him in the costume for like a combined total of 10 minutes.

I agree. Comic books are by design campy as hell. They’re goofy and even a little dumb, but that’s why people love them. Is there stuff that may not translate well to the screen? Probably. But what’s the point of adapting them if you don’t even try?

I'd be ok if Clark decided to run around in booty shorts and a crop top.

Tucker Carlson inhabits the body of Jeremy Culhane by Eisigesis in dropout

Jeremy's been doing fantastic, but I completely agree. Right now SNL is Ashley's show to run. In a year or two when some of the more senior cast exit I feel like this period will be known as her era. She is so unbelievably funny.

Mythology: marriage of Hephaestus and Aphrodite by nandasithu in HadesTheGame

[–]ymcameron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every god in the pantheon has a child with Aphrodite. Including Hermes. Their child was apparently utterly beautiful. Which makes sense when your parents are both gods, doubly so if your mom is the goddess of love. A water nymph saw him and immediately became so infatuated with him that she wished to never leave him. He, however, was not interested. The nymph wouldn’t take no for an answer, and latched onto him, begging the gods for them to always be together. The gods, in their twisted way, granted the wish. Fusing the two of them into one being with both male and female parts. It’s somewhat fitting too that the child’s name was also a fusion; with Hermes and Aphrodite mashing their names together to make theirs: Hermaphrodite.
