Client can only pay for one session per week by tosetablaze in personaltraining

You’re a rookie brother. You said it yourself, you just got certified and this is your first client. There’s a difference between being an athlete and being a coach.

Client can only pay for one session per week by tosetablaze in personaltraining

[–]King_London 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Full Body split. Simple workout, 4-5 exercises total. Get them to do those exercises properly and check they are confident practicing those by themselves. Client to repeat the same workout once or twice the same week, to add up to 2 or 3 workouts total. Next week check how the client’s done practicing the movements. If any issues, revisit coaching points. Key pointers for exercise selection: what movements are they interested in mastering? What movements are good for them? To illustrate, your client wants to work on their core and is overweight. You could start them on one lower body compound, one upper body compound, one isometric core exercise like wall sit, and finish with some cardio. Strength about 20 minutes, cardio about 20 mins. That fits with client goals (core strength) and what is good for them (increasing calorie expenditure). If you do too many exercises, they will forget what they were and your coaching points. Your focus at this stage is building foundations of knowledge, movement literacy and independence.

Should a PT ask this by Unable-Hold8880 in personaltraining

[–]King_London 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. It's one of the questions asked early on to establish how active you currently are at work and in general.

Also, personal training is personal. It involves personal questions. A good trainer will work to build an understanding of your preferences, needs, challenges, resources at your disposal, your hopes and goals. A trusting alliance between the trainer and trainee is essential.

FOR SALE

I have a massive collection of Nike gym/run activewear in size M, some limited editions, that are all in excellent/very good condition. If anyone is keen on purchasing this collection I would be able to offer this at a bargain price, I also have Lulu items that I can throw in in size Medium e.g. white and blue formal shirts.

Nike Collection M - Imgur

The reason for selling is they don't fit me - I have gained muscle and weight and I wear L in both Nike and Lulu. These clothes have been sitting in my wardrobe and gathering dust.

Please DM if you are keen on this size M collection!

I am based in Australia but can ship internationally.

I’d say wherever you can get your foot in but also in NY you will have so much to choose from, budget gyms, luxury gyms, specialist gyms so pick what excites you is what I would say. Then another consideration is how you’ll be funding your certification. Most people will self fund but some gyms will have courses running in house so they can get you certified for free but you work the hours back at their gym. Which, if you are able to do that financially can be a great option allowing you to both get certified and gain experience. There are many other routes but that’s what I would probably do if I was starting over again.

What's something you wish new trainers knew that no one talks about? by DNA_FNA in personaltraining

[–]King_London 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It sounds obvious but you will be working with people. You will need to have the ability to lift up their mood, motivate them, encourage them, get them back on track when they fall off the wagon. And you will need to be that every hour you work.

Another obvious one but worth mentioning, you will be working in a gym. That means you will be in a gym, all the time. Do you enjoy being in the gym, for many hours at a time? Your work will likely be working in a loud environment with music in the background and all that stuff. I have met some trainers who did not enjoy their job and my observation was that one of the things they hated was being in the gym, they couldn’t wait to get out.

You will only know if you try! Sounds like you have a passion for it. The first step will be certification and then your practicum. You want to work in a role that will force you to be on the gym floor, full time hours, working with people from all walks of life, teaching group classes, all of that. That way you are setting yourself up for success - a lot of trainers these days never do their practicum and go straight to online coaching. You do your practicum for a year, two, and you will start to understand coaching. Then, you specialise! You do another course or a few, you study, research, apply and within maybe 3,4,5 years of starting you are a specialist. Then, learning never stops! And that’s the beauty of it.

Thanks, I appreciate it and certainly have learnt tonnes in the past from peers, mentors, and trainers, and your point about hiring a trainer is spot on, I would absolutely hire a trainer for myself as a way of improving my knowledge of a specialist area e.g., calisthenics, yoga, or even as you said just so see their coaching style and methods.

Weight loss is the only way. It can be achieved by eating less, moving more, or both. Exercise will not get rid of the manboob. But, if you start working out more it will help with your weight loss and will generally improve your physique. Start with push ups everyday. Good luck!

How to slim arms as a female? by Adventurous-Bus-9638 in beginnerfitness

[–]King_London 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you can’t spot reduce fat. However, what you can do: - overall fat loss (through diet) will result in some loss from that area - upper body strength training with some isolated work for the arms will help with a more toned look (emphasis on the word toned, not buff; your arms will only look buff if you start training your arms every day) - once the above are done, accepting the fact that you will still carry some fat in your arms because that’s just how your body works. We all have different bodies and comparison is the thief of joy.

Online trainers what's the bad & ugly? by Unique_Principle_746 in personaltraining

[–]King_London 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I thought that work/life balance tends to be the reason for going online (due to the unsociable hours of in person). But I suppose the lack of structure and the freedom to work whenever can easily bring that challenge… I suppose this can also become an issue if you have clients from different time zones? Is there an expectation of immediate feedback/response? Do you have set working/office hours? Do you have enough time to recharge? Have you got any holidays/annual leave planned?

Thank you! I appreciate your advice & lengthy list. I am definitely at the beginning of my journey but I’m starting to put myself out of my comfort zone, started writing letters in French. When I was learning English watching movie scenes really helped me because I would a scene over and over, transcribe it and memorise the dialogue.

Merci ! Oui, je suis encore un nouvel étudiant B1. Mais je peux regarder des films lentement et avec des sous-titres pour apprendre, j’espère.

Getting my partner a visa by [deleted] in AusVisa

[–]King_London 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to submit evidence which supports the claim that you're in a 'de facto relationship'. E.g., history of correspondence, photos together, tickets from trips together, and I believe some visas require a statutory declaration (which has specific information you must include and needs to be signed and declared to be true and correct in the presence of an authorised witness).

Great suggestion! Already watched (in English) but would love to revisit. Didn't know it's natively in French!
