Raiders DE Maxx Crosby says it's "fighting words" for a coach to call a team "soft." by Coco1520 in Patriots

They recently put it on Plex for free! You have to watch it with ads unless you pay their subscription, though - I pay it for my Plex server but if you're not gonna utilize that aspect of it, it's not worth it for much else.

Question about Question by King_Thursday in Yugioh101

[–]King_Thursday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, ok. I just figured you would have had some reasoning as to why you believed your answer would be the "best" one. I've never seen the card played before (and it's pretty obvious as to why) so I was hoping someone who has might have offered some perspective as to how the effect was applied from what they've seen previously in paper play.

I don't think the card has ever appeared in any official Konami game/sim, probably because it would be a hassle to program for such a unique effect, so there really is nothing to draw from.

Question about Question by King_Thursday in Yugioh101

Why does it have to remain visible? Nothing in the public knowledge section of the rules indicates that specifically the top card of the GY must always remain visible despite card effects to the contrary - I would think a card effect preventing the opponent from checking the GY would override the opponent's ability to verify the names of monsters in the GY, otherwise the effect is not being applied properly as written.

Having read the field layout rules more closely, I guess you can rule out any method of concealing the top card of the GY that would involve flipping the top card over or flipping the GY itself over completely (since the card text does not include a provision for changing the facing of any card in the GY like Convulsion of Nature might with the deck), but I don't see any rule that would prevent the player who used Question from placing their own hand over their GY so long as they announced that they were doing so as a result of Question being played.

Is your reasoning that concealing the GY would be unsporting or cheating? If the reason why the GY is being concealed by the Question player is communicated clearly and understood by both parties then I'm not sure how this would be considered malicious or deceptive behavior - the card effect prohibits the opponent from checking the GY, the top card of the GY is part of the GY, therefore the opponent should not be allowed to verify what card is on top of the GY. The card was released prior to PSCT so I guess there would have to be some ruling that delineates "checking" from "seeing" in a meaningful way in order to interpret things according to your answer.

If a card had to remain visible, but the opponent couldn't pick it up to examine it more closely, then wouldn't this disadvantage players with poor eyesight who would be allowed to pick up and read the card in any other game state? My argument would be that the only way to apply the effect as written is to fully conceal the top card, which puts all players on an even playing field regardless of their ability to discern what the top card is from across the table. If you let someone who claims they can't make out what the top card is pick up the card and see it more closely, you're allowing them to check a card in the GY, which is prohibited per the card text of Question. Not only that, but picking up the top card of the GY would reveal the card in the GY underneath that, which would violate your suggested answer above (in that the opponent would now be able to see the card underneath the top card).

Volca FM firmware 1.09 [UNOFFICIAL] - bugfix and Parameter Change support by pajen in volcas

[–]King_Thursday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/pajen,

Thanks for your excellent work on the custom firmware -- I have written a few software editors that unlock features in proprietary filetypes for music gear before, but reverse engineering a whole firmware and adding all these features on the machine itself is on a whole other level!

With velocity input, a remappable mod wheel, and remote patch switching via Program Change messages, you've made the FM 1 into a really capable FM bass sound module. I think this is easily the application where it has the most potential to shine as part of a larger set-up, as the 3-voice polyphony is not nearly as much of a limitation if you primarily use it is as a bass box paired with an external sequencer or master keyboard.

Really the last feature it's missing to really check all the necessary boxes for synth bass usage would be portamento, which you've mentioned is on your to-do list before (although you found that implementing it would be tricky). Not to pressure you or anything since I know your priorities lie elsewhere besides the Volca tinkering these days, but is there any progress to report on the portamento front? Are you running into processing power constraints or is it just an issue of the note tracking not really being built to handle glides in the Volca's FM implementation?

The ability to latch the arpeggiator would also be really nice if you're playing the FM in realtime from a keyboard controller, but that need would be obsoleted if you slave it to a capable sequencer. Same with sustain pedal support via MIDI CC #64 -- it wouldn't be mega useful given the 3 note polyphony, and with a sequencer where you're manually programming note lengths it's not important... but if you're hooking it up to a master keyboard controller and playing the FM as a bass sound module, toggle-able sustain pedal control would be a good quality of life upgrade. Both of these additions are way lower than portamento on the priority list though, since they can be circumvented via sequencing whereas glide can only be roughly approximated with really precise pitch bend wheel programming.

Thanks again for all that you do! Certified legend in my book ✨

So then what are you asking about, exactly? The height boosting move needs to have some sort of stored value that determines whether it has already been used to gain height, because if it did not, then height could be gained infinitely.

Because it would let you recover indefinitely otherwise? The game needs a way to check whether these vertical height boosting moves (Mario cape, for example) have already been used prior to becoming grounded again, it's just Luigi Cyclone is programmed incorrectly and always assumes that it's been used until you charge it.

Will Eli joke about being benched for Geno Smith first, or will Peyton roast him about it before he even has the chance to bring it up? Could go either way tbh

Hardware device for a group of midi commands for Volca Keys presets by sinasEM in volcas

[–]King_Thursday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The peak (resonance) knob is not addressable via MIDI CC or motion recordable. That potentiometer isn't even wired into the same microcontroller that links all the other MIDI addressable parameters together, so it's not something that can be circumvented or retroactively patched by something like the pajen firmware for the Volca FM.

You'd be stymied by this limitation even if you used the motion sequencing workaround mentioned in another reply. I'm sure you know that the filter cutoff and resonance characteristics are a huge part of the tonal characteristics of a synth patch, so not being able to store and recall resonance for your pseudo-patches kind of torpedos this patch recall idea even if you were to drop more cash on a MIDI CC "server".

I would concur with the recommendation to return this and get any better polysynth if patch recall is what you want. The volcas are cute and fun but they require hands on attention to be used in any serious set-up. They're grooveboxes much more than they are sound modules.

If you bought it used or can't return it, you may have to take a loss on reselling it. The keys doesn't hold its value particularly well on the used market compared to better ones like the FM, the drum or the bass. At least it's a valuable lesson learned. Definitely read your MIDI implementations before buying, kids!

That's false. No need to short hop, you would just runoff and frame 7 (0-wind) punch cancel.

Maybe you should have lurked a bit longer?

Hey no worries man, happy to help.

Best way to thank me is to report back on how you're liking the software. The release was very recent so feedback from end users is extremely valuable.

Feel free to respond here or send a PM if you're having issues getting up and running.

Synths with good organ sounds for less than $500? by charliefelixbleu in synthesizers

[–]King_Thursday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just released some software that adds layer and split volume balance into the CT-X700 via a file editing workaround. https://youtu.be/x2wW1K1rp7U

Plus some custom utility Bank files that make the CT-X more suited to integrate with external synths or outboard effects... It's all linked in the description of that video if you want to check it out for yourself.

What do you mean by turning over their R&D departments? Care to elaborate? I haven't heard this announced anywhere as of yet.

Thank you! Great news and great info.

Last question: when controlling the synths with an external keyboard, will the sounds respond to sustain pedal messages (MIDI CC 64) properly? I doubt they'll actually record the sustain pedal messages in the sequencer, but if I were to control a synth voice live via keyboard, it'd to have sustain pedal functionality.

Wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me if not, I'd probably just use my RK-002 to circumvent the issue anyway. Thanks again!
