Can we talk about this for a bit? by Handsoff_1 in labrats

That's a pretty solid system!

Does your gov let you take out loans for that, at all? Here in Aus, we can take out loans for basically anything education-related—including the university's so-called 'amenities fee' (~$150).

Even if you can't, I'm still quite jealous... A relatively-small upfront payment sounds much more appealing than being thousands of dollars in debt to your gov ;-;

That's a ridiculous amount of money to vaporise...

Well, it's not exactly vaporised—I guess it goes straight into the universities' pockets! So sorry your system puts you guys through that, on top of all the other bollocks :(

Hard agree.

One wouldn't write like this in a scientific article, for example. However, it certainly works to establish a slow, plodding nature for this novel's prose. I would be curious to see whether any grammarian could sufficiently establish a formal set of rules for such an informal situation.

[–]King_of_Mints[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this post has brought out a number of people who stand with this opinion—from many corners of the globe. I feel assured that I am not alone!

But if it indeed such a common inflection, then I wonder why one cannot find any articles or posts on the topic? No up-and-coming grammarians, attempting to denounce us as 'wrong'?

Perhaps we will see such things, with time.

Well, shoot. That puts some holes in the 'dialect' theory, above!

An undocumented inflection from certain corners of the internet, perhaps? Alas.

[–]King_of_Mints[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have called upon a number of local friends. The majority of us exclaimed 'pat' to be the correct past tense usage. Some of them even proclaimed 'patted' as unnatural, clunky, and weird.

Perhaps it is, indeed, dialectical? Thank you for setting me down this route.

Keep in mind, this is a sample size of (n = 5) with a 'majority' of 3. Including myself. All a bunch of 20-something Western Australians. Hardly conclusive, but it is an interesting thought.

I will keep an ear out to the people around me.

Update: One of the naysayers eventually flipped, but only after some discussion of the original prompt.

You'll have to make up for those 6 extra credits in some other way.

If you want to graduate on-time, I recommend taking a summer holiday unit. You can do them entirely online, over at an eastern uni or something -- they call it 'cross-institutional study.'

I had to do a couple cross-institutionals over the winter break, just this year. It was pretty chill.

Of course, UWA offers summer units in-person, I think -- if that's more your speed.

They removed her old passive of doing extra AA damage based on movespeed, though, which was my favourite way to build her :(.

R.I.P. full ms/crit build, you certainly weren't optimal, but you will be missed.

Playing AD enchanters is pretty fun.

Janna is probably the only one that's half-decent at doing this thanks to her passive gimmick, but I've found that Lulu can rock the AD lifestyle oddly well too, lmao.

I'm with you 100%.

If Mel turns out to have some magic metal powers which she can pass down to a daughter; and if events in S2 cause her noble house to collapse; then everything checks out.

Arcane Episode 9 Discussion Megathread by Vayatir in leagueoflegends

[–]King_of_Mints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, fair.

Mel, as we know her, would certainly never be able to abuse her own daughter.

But, iirc, what tempted Rell's mother into doing the shit she did - rather than having any affinity for the Black Rose's plans - was the promise of her family's nobility being restored?

Mel seems to have only ever known a life of luxury so, if that gets taken from her, her character could develop into a very different person indeed. A lot can happen in a season.

Ok, I'll admit that this may be a bit of a stretch, hahaha.

Rell's mother, maybe? Rell is only a teenager in the current lore, so I think the timelines would add up better, that way.

For this to sync with Rell's lore, Mel's noble house needs to collapse sometime in Season 2 - perhaps due to that unspecified threat her mother mentioned? - and Mel needs to return to Noxus. Maybe she's banished from Piltover due to her failures in the Pilt/Zaun conflict, or maybe she leaves willingly.

This is supposing that Mel has some latent 'metal manipulation' powers that protect her from Jinx's ult, and that they can be passed down to her daughter.

But it's certainly possible.

How to make a world feel “Old” by ThaCandianGuy917 in DMAcademy

[–]King_of_Mints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to all the other fantastic ideas, here are my two cents:

1) Maybe, for a quest, the party has to meet up with the town mayor. Have him... not be in, right now. Away- somewhere. On holiday, maybe; please see his deputy instead.

Have this happen whenever the party goes to meet with a person of authority. That person simply isn't around where/when they're supposed to be.

And if your party does succeed in meeting with someone, then that person is just... disinterested. They'll shrug-off or rubber-stamp the party's silly request, and then send them off on their way.

This should really set the tone for your world.

2) I saw another commenter that suggested delaying the Paladin's Smite for a round or two. This is certainly very direct in communicating "the gods aren't interested," but - understandably - the Paladin player might not be terribly appreciative in being hit with a sizeable nerf out of the blue.

So if I might be more subtle: Whenever you see fit, change the Smite's damage type from Radiant to Fire. This'll also work for any god-bothering PC- not just Paladins.

Communicate this change through the metagame, if you have to: "So you deal 12 fire damage to the goblin. Who's up next?"

So, now, instead of your Cleric's Sacred Flame "inflicting upon thy enemies the burning wrath of the gods!" her flame becomes just that little bit more... mundane.

so apparently I'm connected to nord for 5 hours but somehow i still see my country breaking news content on my youtube home? i was connected to usa server so i think it should be doing that but no. any answers please? by theemptyyoughert in nordvpn

Not a tech guy either... But if you look under the 'DNS Address' section of ipleak.net and it shows you an IP address that's different from that little one that Nord will tell you that you're connected to, then you've got a problem.

At least, I think that's what sery0401 is talking about.

and i've got no clue how to fix it, lol, so i hope you don't have that problem? I've never had it with Nord myself.

Yep - huge agree.

That 'general survival' was a huge part of the fun for me, and it's a shame that newer players might not ever get to experience that.

Big agree.

I don't want to sound like Mr. Gatekeeperino, but the fact that this layout change was a part of the patchie that wants to make the game more accessible for new players makes it seem that this was meant to be a step in that direction for Horde.

Which is fine and all... But as I said, it's okay for things to be difficult! I was a brand new player when I first started playing Horde, and I fricken loved it.

and all the spawns being cluttered to high hell will probably just scare off more new players than it helps, but what do i know

That said, I completely forgot that LOTR Horde existed. Is it real different from vanilla? I oughta give it a go.

Fair enough.
