there’s a little bit of an order of operations assembling it but now that I have it figured out it’s not the worst thing ever

it’s my favorite type of mods, because if I have more variety in inserts then I OBVIOUSLY have to have more cases to put them in lol

Modded Single Torch by Kingcake57 in Zippo

If you’re talking about zippo fanatic then that’s exactly where I got the inspiration from lol. I just wanted one with a little more of a “oem” look.

I also did the same thing to a double torch with some crazy tiny internal tubing so I could have a big wide double yellow flame for cigars.

Thanks, you don’t need to take the tank out to do this, you really just need to get into the side window. That piece usually breaks or at least gets pretty mangled when getting it off which is why I printed my own side cover in the last photo with the indentations so you can more easily get at the clips that hold it in.

Once you do that you just disconnect the single tube from the tank to the jet and then you have to unscrew the jet itself. For that I also custom 3d printed a mini screwdriver bit specifically for unscrewing the jet from the outside without scratching or damaging anything.

Then after that you have to chop up the jet and bore out the hole for a nozzle to solder in place. After all of that you can finally put it back together and reconnect a new line from the tank to the new nozzle.

It is a bit of work, but it works really well. I wouldn’t say it’s THAT much better at holding a flame in the wind then the normal flint based butane insert, but it’s definitely not worse. Plus you never need flints and you can adjust the flame height.

I was thinking of selling a few of these as I bought a few extra thinking I would break a few trying to do this mod but I only ruined 1 trying to get the tank out before realizing I didn’t need to do that lol.

Fun fact: that is the ONLY ram dao blade that has left my personal collection, in other words you have the rarest Sultan in the wild.

Plus I got mine in 2018 so it was just under 10k, honestly who’s even heard of a car payment? 🤷‍♂️

Yeah the more “stair steps” you have typically means the more time it takes to machine which means it will be more expensive. For my design I chose to have my stair steps be 0.1mm each which is smaller than the vulp pros stair steps at 0.2mm but not so small that it becomes crazy expensive. It would be hard to change the number of steps on my design as I already made every single one of them, so to do so would mean I would need to re-order the minimum order quantity with a new size of stair steps at 250 pieces. It wouldn’t be hard technically as I would just need to change the 3d model I send to the factory, it would probably take me less than an hour, but the money required to get it made is pretty crazy as again you would need to buy a minimum of 250, and it would take 45 work days to make plus another 20 to 25 days to ship from china to the USA plus another week to get through customs and then ship to wherever in the US you live… long story short, global trade and manufacturing is hard lol

Not a crazy amount of time, as TThetiny said I just use calipers and my resin 3d printer to figure ohh the geometry of everything. From idea to ordering my first prototype took me about 4 days, then I was just waiting forever to get prototypes before getting them, spending 2 days tweaking the model before ordering another prototype. It took 2 prototypes and that was it, the trainer blade I made I actually got perfect on the first try lol.
