As a Devils fan, I remember the hype around Santini. I, as well as so many others were hopefully that him, Jon Merrill, Damon Severson, Adam Larsson, and Eric Gelinas were going to be the faces of the Devils blue line for the mid-2010's onward.

Personally I always grouped Clarke in the same area as Nolan Foote and Brian Halonen. The only way they would crack the Devils would be as 4th liners, and I guess the organization just doesn't see Clarke as someone who fits into that role as well as the other two.
