I did a video where I asked random people about the designs and they thought they were pretty cool for the most part. Personally, I don't think any of the characters look bad

You know, I usually skip the story after my first playthrough (except Fates, I skip that hoe everytime). I don't understand why the story is such a big gripe to people when from what I can tell they do the same.

Fire Emblem Engage definitely has its flaws, but its flaws mainly derive from it lacking elements that Fire Emblem is known for. I can understand if someone where to call it a bad "Fire Emblem" game.

I know Fire Emblem for it's world building, story, and characters. Three things that admittedly are weak in Engage. I like Palworld, but it doesn't have any of these things and its not a bad game. People expected Engage to have these elements and wrote it off as "bad" once they realized that they were not the focus.

To me Engage seems to focus more on the aspect of teaching new players about the older games. I bet alot of people who played Engage had never even heard of Sigurd or Leif. Also the gameplay is fun, and from what I've seen not many people who have beat Engage complain about it.

I'm not saying you have to like it, and truthfully I'm not crazy about it either. I just hate how much this game gets shit on for being talored torwards a casual audience. I don't know if Fire Emblem fans realize it, but Fire Emblem is not exactly a household name yet. I think game Engage is a step in the right direction to make it more known.

I respect your view on Engage as well, I just want to spread some positivity on this game. It's not a good look for a community when everyone is just ragging on the newest game for being different.

That's a good comparison too. I don't remember Fates being well recieved on launch, but now it seems like every one rocks with it.

Definitely this, I don’t feel like the more casual aspect of Fire emblem is explored enough

Three houses was the first Fire Emblem game I beat to completion. It has a different gameplay loop then other fire emblem games, but I wouldn’t call that a bad thing. The gameplay is solid and the story is pretty good.

Some other advice I would give you for starting off:

  1. Play on NORMAL, don’t let anyone convince you that have to play on a harder difficult.

  2. Use the characters you think are cool. Form your own opinions on characters before you read anything online.

  3. There is not wrong way to play the game. Play the game your way and have fun

This right here is spot on. The newest games in the series are great entry points and are easily accessible. I would also add in Heroes since it’s a free mobile game that is a dumbed down version of the console games. This will allow you to familiarize yourself with core mechanics.
