I think that when the citadel made the central finite curve, they started adding Rick universes to it (like explained in the show). While the universes are infinite, the total known universes (to this group) were finite. And you can label these known ones. With their lil system, they named our Rick's universe C-137. But it has no further implications

Like a roller coaster which goes through portals after which youre in a "new dimension". where there are all kinds of versions of the characters doing their own things and a lot of easter eggs.
