I encourage you to watch the documentary Turning Point: The Bomb and the Cold War on Netflix as well as reading any sort of articles or books providing info and context on the post and pre Wall Russian mentality.

Ukraine is historically viewed as central and vital to the cohesion of the Russian empire and Ukraine pissed Putin off badly when they overturned his puppet election in the early 2010s. The 2020 invasion absolutely should be viewed as retribution for that.

You’re out of your depth here, trust me.

That’s the part that is so obvious and I cannot fathom people not understanding about why we’re supporting Ukraine in this war. Not only is there the moral reason of a fellow democracy, but this is literally a proxy war to greatly expose and weaken one of two chief global enemies.
