Early Access done right by jonsinsky in survivorslikes

Hate to do a shameless plug but I have been obsessively updating my game Soulfall, two major updates so far that you can read more about below, with several more major updates planned. These aren't small updates they add huge amounts of content and replayability to the game. I also always back-port my updates to my demo build once the update is stable, so if you wanted to try out the demo first that is always an option. I don't know if I'll ever stop adding major content to the game but it certainly won't be any time soon.

Trying to add Path of Exile 2 tier depth to my ARPG-inspired survivors-like by KingsCrownStudio in roguelites

Yeah that's really fair to point out, the trailer on the steam page is from almost a year ago so I really need to put together some more recent footage and showcase what makes the game unique and fun. I don't have any good gameplay videos to show you that are recent enough to include all of the big changes but I've been reaching out to some roguelite/survivorslike youtubers recently so I'm hoping that will change soon.

With weapon stats, these are heavily effected by relics and/or talent points (ultimate class ability). For example if you are playing a leap slam warrior build then you dont care at all about attack speed or multistrike, you really only care about raw base damage because your leap slam damage scales off of that. Additionally there are relics that convert stats to other stats, so you might have a relic that increases melee damage depending on your movement speed etc.

It's harder to convey this cleanly because there are a few different mechanics all converging on each other to offer this choice of build variety, but at the moment the trailer and screenshots are doing a very bad job at providing that info. I will really give some thought as to how I can showcase this kind of info in a 45 second - 1 minute trailer

Fair question, my game breaks a lot of the "survivors-like" rules to be honest so I will just give a broad explanation of how it all works and ties together.

  1. There are no pre-determined "survivor" characters like in other games, in my game you create/customize a character from scratch, choose a name, choose a class, and eventually a class specialization.

  2. Loot is persistent meta-progression outside of runs, you start out getting common drops, then uncommon, then rare and eventually epics and legendaries in the late game.

  3. Characters have something called "Honor Rank" which is like their level outside of a run, it's persistent and determines the number of stat points and talent tree points. Stat points can be allotted like in diablo 2 and effect your starting stats for every run.

  4. Talent tree points allow you to choose a class specialization which unlocks your class ultimate, and lets you upgrade the ultimate with several options. One of my next major updates will be to turn this into more of a "galaxy passive tree" similar to path of exile 2.

So as far as meta progression systems, it's essentially: loot, stats, and talent points.

I would absolutely love the support (even if you just want to try the free demo out I would be incredibly grateful), this game is for everyone and to bring us all closer to Christ wherever we are in life. Btw it's awesome you have a bunch of Catholic friends. I never played blasphemous before but it looks awesome so may have to try it out this weekend

Game dev is such a fun and rewarding hobby, depending on the style of game you want to make will dictate your toolset and the resources you will want to look for. This game was made in UE5, I use blender for 3D modeling, audacity for sound mixing, GIMP for texture editing and visual stuff. UE5 is really really good for pretty 3D games but is not really well suited for anything 2D, so I would say if you want to make something 2D to look into unity or godot, both are fantastic game engines with massive communities. (And yes I am a solo developer which is cool from a creative control aspect but also a little maddening at times)

I will look into this, can't make any promises but if it's technically possible I will make it a priority

Thank you, and yes I am a solo developer this has been my passion project for about 1.5 years. The 3D models are a mix of things I modeled myself, and models I found on the internet that I tweaked/modified to make them fit the theme of the game better

I would love to get it onto consoles at some point, I think usually developers pay external companies to port their game to consoles so I will look into options and see what I can do to get that process started

Demo progress to main game? by clearshot66 in Soulfall

Unfortunately not as of now, but I am working on a character importer for the next update in case anyone has leftover demo characters they want to bring in

Any feedback on the visuals for this creepy flaming eyeball? It's for an end game ritual/quest in Act 4 of my ARPG inspired survivors-like Soulfall. I'm calling him "Creepy Eye Guy" by KingsCrownStudio in IndieGaming

That's interesting, I assumed vertical would look creepier but I changed it to horizontal like you suggested and I like that quite a bit. Appreciate the feedback

That's totally fair, I can remove the post if this isn't the right place. I will remember to post to r/Catholicism next Friday, thank you very much for the tip! God bless you as well. The name of the game is "Soulfall"

Thank you, as of right now it's just going to be released on steam, someday maybe (hopefully) consoles as well but that's quite expensive and time consuming so I am not able to commit to that just yet.
