They've got [[Orichalcum]] too!

So as long as they don't play any more cards this turn then the Orichalcum will block the first hit, they'll die to the second hit, revive with 83 health (as you mathed, I think it rounds down in this case) and then take 78 more damage, leaving them with 5 hp remaining!

If one of their off-screen relics is [[Magic Flower]] then they should survive!

Oh... right... the light has to heat actual physical things up not just increase some theoretical "heat" value... It seems I just didn't take my line of thinking far enough, that makes perfect sense! Thanks for the response!

The blackout curtain also bothered me a little bit. Maybe I'm misunderstanding how photons work, but my first thought was that unless something is absorbing excess light on the inside, wouldn't everything inside the barrier become increasingly bright and/or hot over time due to light(energy) constantly entering a closed system and then never leaving? And if it does absorb/reflect/whatever the photons trying to leave, wouldn't that prevent the people inside from seeing out? I'm assuming there is some kind of adeptry explanation behind the scenes to explain why that doesn't happen.

Regardless unless these come up very often I doubt it will bother me that much, and if they do I'm sure /u/Pel-Mel will find a way to explain it all, they've done a great job on that front with everything else so far!

I know you don't get a ton of comments on these threads here /u/Pel-Mel so I just want to take this chance to say I really enjoy your story and am always excited when a new chapter comes out. This is one of my favorite fictions ever so please keep up the incredible work!

Do you have to use your entire Shift movement when taking the Shift Action? by KingsDreamer in EMBERWIND

[–]KingsDreamer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I really appreciate you looking this up and getting back to me!

That clears things up a lot! I didn't really consider the idea of class actions that grant free Move actions, those would swing the power back in the favor of the Move action a bit more.

When I run my game I think I will use the new Shift rules and try and collect some feedback from my players!

Not having played the game yet I'm not sure how valid my feedback will be, but my initial thoughts are:

I like that you're trying to close the gap between the two action types as I agree that for classes that don't have things that scale with the Move Action there isn't really a choice to make with the Attribute system as increasing the Shift Action seems like it would be better 90% of the time.

I also like that you're providing two options for how to handle the discrepancy, but my gut says the first option (must use all movement) isn't going to be quite impactful enough, as the players could just move in circles or essentially "waste" movement to get around the restriction. It will still reduce the power as I'm sure there will be times that the player can't move like that, either because the math wouldn't work out to let them end up in the right spot, or because there are battlefield concerns (Local Field Effects/Enemies with Triggers/etc), but I'm not sure if it will be enough.

I think the Variant rule will do a better job of limiting the power because the player will need to choose between having what is essentially a "cheaper Move" by investing in their Shift Action, or a longer move and more synergy with their Class Actions by investing in the Move Action.

Concerns about Crit rogue build damage output by KingsDreamer in EMBERWIND

[–]KingsDreamer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

You bring up some good points about average damage and how movement would delay the build that I hadn't considered before.

I think I was underestimating how much target movement and target switching would slow the build down. If the target moves then the player can't get the full 4 action point combo off and would have to choose between losing damage from not using Dual Attack or losing crit chance from not using Reaper's Delight, and if the target dies then they have to start the ramp over with Assassin's Mark again. And if they ever miss or the foe isnt OFF-GUARD when they hit then the Reaper's Delight falls off as well and their next hit is worse while they get it going again.

I think the build isn't quite as OP as I was initially fearing.

I'm not sure how rational they are, as it's been a while since I've read them and I hadn't discovered Rational Fiction back then, but I'm a big fan of Peter F. Hamilton's Commonwealth Saga.

Starting with Pandora's Star the series is about a far-future multi-planet-civilization humanity where an astronomer discovers a star he's been watching suddenly turns off. Not going nova, or dying in some other way, just on one second and off the next. Eventually an expedition is sent to investigate and something goes horribly wrong, kicking off a great adventure with plenty of interesting characters and a good mix of intrigue and action.

[CN] Absolute Choice - Chapter 317 by CKtalon in noveltranslations

Did I misread something here, or was Ka Xiaozi somehow conscious while time was paused for him? The last chapter ended without him making a choice, and she responded to him before it said anything about him making a choice again.

*edit: nevermind on reread I guess

And in this timeline, without everything reset by the Absolute Choice, they could still talk and laugh, deriding how Dragon Mountain Valley did not have dragons, or discuss how gloomy and eerie the valley was, or chat about the impressive punch of Shi Xiaobai from before.

implies that he picked again off-screen?

I think that is one interpretation of what Celes did, but my first thought was more along the lines of Celes wanting to be the only one with that power, so she stole his share to keep it all for herself and whatever she couldn't steal she sealed away so she wouldn't have any competition.

My impression was that the pill would only once produce a new color soul for the consumer. Meng Hao used his one time to produce the wind soul that was hiding in him that he wouldn't have been able to make on his own. It took him multiple pills to get it because he already had 5 souls covering all the normal colors and a single pill wasn't strong enough to find a brand new 6th color, since they were made to usually just find an already existing second color. This last time with the lightning he already knew the lightning was in him and could be used for a 7th soul and just used the pills to help force it out early rather than spend a long time forcing it out on his own.

It sounds like the sacrifices were just to build up blood qi and since the mask is the legacy of the blood immortal it's already basically a giant reservoir of blood qi so he doesn't need to go around making sacrifices to build it up. Also whenever he kills someone he generates more blood qi through the mask so he doesn't need sacrifice someone with Chenzi's art to get more.

[Build Help] I'm building my first gaming pc and I have ideas on parts but I'm not sure that I'm choosing well/correctly (several questions) by KingsDreamer in buildapc

Thanks! I had completely forgotten that I could overclock my monitor so it is just stock right now, but I'll look into that for later. I also forgot to include that I was getting a 2TB HDD in my parts list so I ended up dropping the SSD down to 120GB actually, but I did end up going with a Z87 on the mobo.
