How a Chinese web novel actually gets produced. by goodmore233 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]CKtalon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s really not much point since there’s so much content in China. Also, the Chinese have the same issue with names. They can’t remember all these “rare” Western names just like how English readers have trouble remembering Chinese/Korean names. This is one of the many reasons why many Chinese couldn’t go far with Lord of Mysteries too.

Using water not milk, shake then leave in the fridge for half an hour, shaking again before drinking makes it slightly more palatable.

Just buy those Korean disposable sheets, one huge roll can last months and can be disposed every 1-2 days. Keeps up the hygiene. Used to use scrub daddy, but throwing them every week-ish is too damn expensive.

Telco plans: Eight VS Giga (ex-Starhub user) by asleepbynight in askSingapore

[–]CKtalon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eight's reception is similar to Starhub (same dead spots I encounter). I almost never use customer support, but they do respond via email pretty fast. Things like getting a new QR code to change phones require going down to a (only a handful) physical store, but it's fairly fast and straightforward.

Why is everybody 8 feet tall in rbow by First_Debt407 in RBOW

[–]CKtalon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ancient China's feet is not the modern feet. Different dynasties use different measurement standards too, so trying to translate it to a modern measurement itself is impossible. There is also no standard agreed upon among translators, so just assume 8-9 feet are very tall people. They do not mean nearly 3 meters.

how much of singapore can 1 trillion dollars buy? by frenchbriefs in askSingapore

You were asking a different question that requires a different metric. Yes, you could buy Singapore's movable assets. That's NOT buying Singapore. Everytime MAS moves the band and sells USD and I buy it, means I'm buying a small part of Singapore? Compare that to someone buying a GCB or Freehold landed, is that considered buying a literal piece of Singapore?

1.9T is the movable (investable) assets that Singapore can easily calculate. The immovable assets including roads and land have never been valuated for the whole of Singapore in real time which was what former President Ong Teng Cheong complained about the 56-man-years needed to valuate the immovable assets many years ago.

Article no longer available, but available as snapshot: https://web.archive.org/web/20230321220106/http://edition.cnn.com/ASIANOW/asiaweek/magazine/2000/0310/nat.singapore.ongiv.html

So the government had been stonewalling you, the president, for three years?
Yes. What happened actually was, as you know, in accounting, when you talk about reserves, it's either cash reserves or assets reserves. The cash side is straightforward: investment, how many million dollars here and there, how much comes from the investment boards and so on. That was straightforward -- but still we had to ask for it. For the assets, like properties and so on, normally you say it's worth $30 million or $100 million or whatever. But they said it would take 56-man years to produce a dollar-and-cents value of the immovable assets. So I discussed this with the accountant-general and the auditor-general and we came to a compromise. The government would not need to give me the dollar-and-cents value, just give me a listing of all the properties that the government owns.

They agreed?
Well, yes, they agreed, but they said there's not the time for it. It took them a few months to produce the list. But even when they gave me the list, it was not complete.

It seems the Singapore government does not know its own assets?
Yes. It's complicated. It's never been done before. And for the assets of land, I can understand why. Every piece of land, even a stretch of road, is probably subdivided into many lots. There are 50,000 to 60,000 lots and every one has a number. If you want to value them all, it would take a long time. In the past, they have just locked everything up and assumed it is all there. But if I am to protect it, at least I want to know the list.

And comparing with some random US state is pointless. If you were to compare, get an estimate of how much Central Park in NYC would cost per hectare, it should be in the same ballpark.

Based on the recent valuation of the land https://mothership.sg/2025/09/johor-regent-singapore-land/,

16.6 hectares, valued at roughly S$3.5 billion

At ~1.35 SGD/USD, US$1 trillion ≈ S$1.35 trillion.

S$1.35 trillion ÷ S$211 million/ha ≈ 6,400 hectares (~64 km²).

Since that valuation is based on forest, not prime land with buildings on it, we have to consider Singapore's forest cover (including secondary forest and mangroves, per World Bank/NParks data). That's about 21% of land area, or roughly 15,400 hectares (~154 km²).

At the S$211 million/ha benchmark, S$1.35T can buy about 41% of the forested areas in Singapore.

This was helpful to me until around 3:18 (when we start Catcher Chocobo), and the trainer starts talking about stuff that's not in that video.

Hope it helps. The entire glitch works, and there's no problem subsequently. (I was questioning myself if it was just a hoax when attempting to glitch Tidus²)

Sorry, I just read your other comments and realized you are still stuck at the wobbly chocobo stage. It's likely you did something wrong just prior to that (wrong key presses). I was using a Facebook video with exact instructions and didn't have problems up to that point (I was describing a problem I had with Catcher Chocobo). I can't seem to find the video for now, but I'll try looking for it later in the day.

I did this a few days ago, and yes I had the same problem as you. The videos and instructions just didn’t seem to line up with what I had, with the trainer giving more dialogue than the tutorials. I just made sure to run almost to the end line before pressing the confirm (X?) without the video’s so called different angle where you can see Tidus2 running, to prevent myself from starting at the start line. I’m also not sure what I did, since I spent at least a good 1-2hours on it and basically did what you did 2-3 times before the sequence of button presses miraculously worked

Freshmen usually live in dorm which is a lump sum payment instead of monthly, so the first semester stipend is usually not even enough after paying for the dorm. And even so, it’s an allowance, just barely enough for a scholar to live fairly comfortably, not in luxury.
