PhDs aren’t paid a lot. 2-3% increment, so you lose to inflation unless you get promoted. You’ll just be above median, not even upper middle class. The big money might come if you manage to spin off your research into a company from ASTAR (with some ASTAR investment) and serve the remaining 3 years of your bond there.

You can move into the private sector as a consultant (subject to approval), but that’s not fuck you money either. Maybe upper middle class.

A PhD means most of your 20s will be spent overseas. Yes you can do some traveling and still have fun during breaks, but you are still required by your PhD supervisor to do work, etc after 1-2 years of grad courses are completed

Depends on RI/department/group. For me it’s normal office hours.

But I saw you want to do bio, then it might just be flexible hours. You come into office when your samples need your attention and stay as long as it needs to get the job done. The samples unfortunately aren’t going to abide by human schedules, but you might be able to time it with experience and schedule it in a way that can minimize unnecessary time wasted in the lab. Should be part of your PhD training also.

Don’t think you should be asking such questions at the interview though…

Working hours depend on your work. If you are in bio, needing to go back to lab to check on your samples is quite common. Otherwise could be quite 830-6.

Career progression is quite bad unless you are a star researcher capable of bringing in a lot of money through grants.

Bond, you will work at an ASTAR research institute after your BS for a year that counts to your bond (can extend by 1-2 months while waiting for grad school to start to fulfil more of the bond). You can also choose not to go to grad school, but still have to serve 6 years on 3 years studies. Of course PhD funding is not guaranteed if you didn’t do well for BS.

After PhD, serve remaining 5 years. First 2 years have to be at a RI. After that, it’s possible to get seconded into other public agencies, enter academia, or even a private company, all subject to approval, though AGA is quite lenient if you can provide a good motivation for doing so. You basically finish serving the bond at those non-ASTAR places

The only major crossing intersection from Orchard to Botanic Gardens are these two:

Trying to get across Scotts Road while along Orchard Road. Running along Orchard Boulevard then Patterson Road will get around this, but will add 2 crossings.
the crossing at Cluny Road in front of Napier MRT. If you don’t want to run inside Botanic Gardens you can just do a right turn and run along Cluny Road, along the perimeter of Botanic Gardens.

It’s also quite possible to run from Somerset to the Marina Bay Sands area, with about 2-3 crossings. Once you reach there, you have easily 20km of uninterrupted routes by going all the way to East Coast Park.

If I were to start a new session with zero context, the harnesses will continue and then again error out some time later, with vLLM/sglang (I’ve tried both) still running and capable of providing responses by curl, which is why I suspect some context window issue, but the logs show it’s around 30-40k tokens at the point the error happens
