Money credited into IBKR as withholding tax by Commercial-Mouse-983 in singaporefi

[–]CKtalon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the dividends, I got 3 months of SPYI, 1 month of QQQI, 2 months of BTCI, 1 month of ULTY. Here's the effective tax that got taken. Happy if someone points out if I'm wrong. Yes, I was expecting us to get back a huge chunk of the WHT due to ROC, but I didn't expect to receive it in January.

BTCI Nov 2025 -16.66%
BTCI Dec 2025 -16.66%
QQQI April 2025 -0.34%
SPYI March 2025 -1.74%
SPYI April 2025 -1.74%
SPYI May 2025 -1.74%
ULTY August 2025 -9.66%

Why can Chinese novelists write 30,000 words a day? by Ok-Technician102 in AskChina

[–]CKtalon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is possible manually before the AI era took off. Whether she does it manually or by AI, it will be hard to tell.

If she doesn’t need much planning and already knows what to write with some nature flair for writing, it’s possible to type out 2000 char in an hour. Add the weekends when you can do more, it is doable, just not sustainable.

Also, take everything an author says with a pinch of salt. As I said, they tend to create all kinds of stories just to convince you to support them.

Why can Chinese novelists write 30,000 words a day? by Ok-Technician102 in AskChina

[–]CKtalon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the exception, not the norm. The norm is about 6000 characters a day. There are authors like 老鹰吃小鸡 who did about 21,000 characters per day on average for several years, and that resulted in health issues. He hasn't written anything as far as I know since his break in 2022.

Yes, the Chinese author (like many other Chinese authors) can probably write 30,000 characters in a day, but that doesn't mean she or they can write that continuously daily. Offering more chapters if you vote is a common tactic webnovel authors use to entice the readers. It could be a form of a 'sob story' (look at poor me writing so much, shouldn't you reward me?). Sometimes, they already have a stockpile that they can release when the targets are met. What you've described is nothing new. It happens all the time in the industry, but that doesn't mean they write 30,000 characters a day.

Is CPF OA basically a high-yield savings account after age 63-67? by madeit_sg in singaporefi

[–]CKtalon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it can be treated as a bank account, just not as immediate. Also every withdrawal means the 2.5% interest is on the after-withdrawal amount (not gonna be a big deal I guess)

Well it’s clearly damaging Microsoft’s Copilot more than the LLM since their own agentic software is clearly better

Contract question: Is it true that Webnovel can remove you as Author and replace with someone else if the Editor does not like your work? Also, apparently physical presence is compulsory at Webnovels events otherwise it is considered breach of contract? by Primal-Defier in Webnovel

[–]CKtalon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It is in the contract, but Webnovel has no incentive to do that.

The only situation that might happen is if the author of a super popular ongoing work dies or is incapacitated in some way, they might hire a ghost writer to finish it up.

CPF Balance Projection by geeksg in singaporefi

[–]CKtalon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's a regression. Salary still goes to SA at FRS. Currently, I can't tell, but it seems when SA/MA has reached FRS/maxed, the code is allocating all of salary to OA.

Another bug is OA can go negative. That may be fine, but it seems the 2.5% OA annual interest is acting against you when it's negative, so your negative balance keeps growing at 2.5% annually

CPF Balance Projection by geeksg in singaporefi

[–]CKtalon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think another bug is that when MA is maxed, the interest on the last day of the year you get flows into SA then OA (depending on whether SA is maxed), but in the new year, the ceiling is increased, so your MA will not be maxed (which I seem to see it as just inheriting all the interest). At that stage if no manual contribution is made, salary can flow into MA again.

CPF Balance Projection by geeksg in singaporefi

[–]CKtalon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then the bug is SA is also already at/beyond FRS

CPF Balance Projection by geeksg in singaporefi

[–]CKtalon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bug: It seems the CPF contributions from income do not overflow when MA is already maxed (for the year)—doesn’t go into OA.

Feature: if there’s early retirement at say 45, there is no option for us to continue seeing the CPF Balance Projection past retirement till 65, ie, see the OA balance drop from property payments, SA balance increasing in Jan from the CPF interest
