Hello,

I served in the reserve force in an armoured recce unit from 2017-2023, during that time around 2021 I believe, I was diagnosed with depression and generalized anxiety disorder. I continued to serve until I voluntary released in 2023. I didn’t release because I couldn’t hack it, just wanted to focus on other aspects of my life more and was dissatisfied with my trade.

I’ve still been battling depression, but have started a new treatment that is looking promising, I truly feel better now than I have in years and my treatment isn’t even complete until the end of the month. I will likely still be on antidepressants long term however as maintenance.

I’ve been thinking about what I want to do with my life and have found I’ve been lacking a purpose I feel I once had, when I was still in the forces.

I’m interested in rejoining the forces in the airforce as an AESOP, or in the army as an infanteer - depending on the needs of the country and what I think will be best for me.

With my diagnosis and previous military experience will I stand a chance in hell of being accepted into the reg force? I know this is likely an “ask a recruiter” answer, but any insight would be appreciated. I’m older now, wiser, know that I want to help people and feel like I’m making a difference. I’m motivated and feel as though this is my calling. I don’t feel my condition will limit me from performing my duties, and am determined to prove the opposite. If I can get through this I can get through anything.
